Lane-Stanton Lumber Co.. which recently opened a brand new seven acre lumber operation in City of Industry, combines two names wellknown in the soirthern California industry.
The old E. J. Stanton & Son, Inc., which supplied one of the names, dates back before the turn of the century and has had its story told several times in these pages. The Lane name, while well-known and respected, is oI newer origins.
It was in 1955 that Vince Besinque, the present Lane-Stanton presi. dent, joined with L. B. Gregg, Jr., to found Lane Lumber. The following year Jack Millikan joined the firm as an associate. Seven rnonths later, Vivian Fields became office manager.
Founded at the same time was Vance Lumber, then as now, specializing in carload sales of hardwood and softwood plus importing Burnie-board, the Australian hardboard. Vance also imports hardwood from Australia and the Far East.
Next year, Fred Jones and his son Ted, started Custom Mills, Inc. on the same premises, It was also at this time that Dick Field took over field operations and Hugh Speed the trucking.
