Women Win D-l-Y Batfle
Roughly one-quarter (23Vo) of Ace Hardware retailers say the number of women performing di-y projects exceeds the number of men tackling such tasks, according to a recent survey by the co-op.
Of those who do not think women exceed men yet, 49Vo believe female d-i-yers are closing the gap.
"We have witnessed an increase in women's role in d-i-y projects in recent years," said Ann Marie Hickey, Ace consumer affairs specialist. "Yet, to hear so many retailers say the numbers are surpassing those of men is somewhat unexpected."
Although 72Vo of respondents said the growQ of distaff d-lyers is because,,riiore women live alone, 66Vo believe women are doing the woi'k themselves rather than waiting for their mate to do the tasks for them.
Other reasons for the increase are women's greater interest in home improvement and maintenance {59Vo), to save money (59Vo), and enjoyment of work (47Vo).

The company's future growth will be lumberyard facilities that accommodate adjacent truss and/or wall panel production plants for providing the complete package from foundation to roof for the pro builder.
