Cedar Siding Expansion
Bevel siding, the most popular style of siding, is now available in a great variety of materials-pressed composite wood chips, cement, vinyl, aluminum, steel, fiberglass, all trying to imitate what nature does so easily.
But at least one producer is investing in the real thing-tight-knot western red cedar.
Lazy S Lumber, which specializes in kiln-dried or green bevel siding and decking lumber in a variety of sizes, recently installed two new dry kilns at its mill in Beavercreek, Or. According to Lazy S president Ralph Schmidt, the custom-designed double track, natural gas kilns have a capacity of 100,000 bd. ft. per kiln which allows them to meet increased cedar siding demand.

To add value, Lazy S has added pre-primed Ready Prime to its kilndried siding product line. Pre-priming the siding on the face and back reduces on-site prep time and helps protect the beauty ofcedar.

Moulding & Millwork Merchandising Tips
When designing your moulding merchandising program, GeorgiaPacific advises to keep the following goals in mind:
. Create a self-serve environment to minimize the need for sales assistance. Maximize visibility of bin signage. Help the consumer identify the product needed for his particular project. Use section signs to group various moulding uses under major categories, such as ceiling treatments and base treatments, and profile cards to show what a profile looks like and where it is most often used.
. Promote moulding project ideas including built-up moulding designs.
. Provide d-i-yers with pocketsized, step-by-step instructions on finishing and installing moulding.
Water-based acrylic paint looks great for a full 10-15 years on MaxiPlank and MaxiPanel. Unlike cedar or manufactured wood that need painting far too often, paint won't crack, peel or blister on our superior fiber cement siding. Remember us when you want that first paint job to last a lot longer.
