Standard isn tyour tlpical milltown. It's not even on most maps. Some folls probablywouldn t call it a town at all.

Butwelike to thinkof itas awonderfrrlmixof the very best of bottr the old and the new.

We ve got a zip code, but no post office. Cattle grze on our property, right alongside our state-of-the-art hardwood plywood facility. And the people who work here would iust as soon spend a weekend fishing or panning for gold on the T\rolumne as theywould driving the 150 miles west to see the pro team play in San Francisco.

After all,we've got the Curtis CreekMustangs. Right here in Standard.

You see, there's a special brand ofpride in this small California town that we doubt you'll find anywtere else in the country.

Mainly, because we like wtrat we do.

Ve think that you'll sense that the momentyou begin working wittr our people and our product.

"I think our quality is the best in the business. Even if we were to charge more for our product, I don t thinkwe d lose but a customer or two. And I bet they'd be back before too long.

"We just have more pride, take more care, prepare our wood bette! stand by our rules. Even where you can't see it.

Because we know that wtren the end-user cuts open thatwood for cabinets orufiatever, there better not be anyholes in it.

Glulams And Dealers

(Continued from page 30) section of a glulam is as stable and usable as the next.

Because of the higher structural values, glulams can extend farther without as many supports as solid sawn or dimension lumber. This makes them a good recommendation for floor and wall supports, girders and joists and garage door and window headers, according to Mahoney.

Tualatin Valley Builder Supply carries glulams at each of its four locations in Oregon. Cheri Kaufman, a company spokesperson, agrees with the advantages cited by Mahoney, adding "We can always count on Weyerhaeuser's glulams for quality and good service."

Increase In 2nd Homes

An increase in the number of vacation or second homes was responsible for the U. S. housing inventory growing 260/o to 100 million units from mid 1970 to mid 1980 while population gained only 110/0, accord- ing to the Census Bureau. Spending for home improvements more than tripled in the same period, rising to $91 billion in 1986. Expenditures doubled from 1982 to 1986, the largest five year increase since housing expenditure surveys were begun by the Census Bureau in 1962.

Owner occupants of single family homes spent nearly $1,000 each for improvements in 1985. About one third of all home improvements were done in the south.
