HomeBase Renaming 5 Units

HomeBase is converting five of its stores to a new format focusing on outdoor furniture, garden supplies and home furnishings.

Called House 2 Home. the stores will reopen in the late summer or early fall in Foothill Ranch, Palm Desert, Murietta, Ca., and two in Las Vegas, Nv. The Palm Desert store closed two years ago, while the other four are currently liquidating their inventory for the changeover.

Instead of focusing on building materials and other strengths of fastgrowing Southwest competitors Home Depot and Lowe's, HomeBase's new concept stresses outdoor living (patio, lawn and garden), indoor living (flooring, carpeting, lighting and storage), home decor and accessories, and seasonal merchandise.

Each House 2 Home will have about 135 employees, compared to 110 at a typical HomeBase.

Getaway July 14-16 in La Quinta, and summer board meeting Aug. 25-26 at the Spyglass Inn, Pismo Beach, Ca.
