The North American W'holesale Lumber Assn. has honored 14 wholesale sales representatives for outstanding sales performances during 1971. !'our are from the West; three from American Forest Producls and one from Reid and Wright, Inc., an independent wholesaler in Fresnq Calif.
MIKE PARLI, 26, Reid & Wright, now one of a select group of 48 nationally that NAWLA has so honored, began in the wholesale appliance field after service in the Navy and graduating from Fresno State College.
CHARLES E. GAITHER, AFPC, Fresno, has spent 7 years in,the industry, beginning as an equipment driver and working up to sales. The criteria for the awards covers sales volume, profit results, new accounts, product and market knowledge and sales ingenuity.
ED CAGLE, AFPC, Fresno, has been a wholesale sales rep for I0 of his 24 years in the business. Formerly with Weyerhaeuser, his forte is specialty products. Like all the winners, he is active in community affairs.
GARY STEWART, Al'Pq Newark, is a hardwood sales rep who increased his gross sales over 1970 by a whopping lo9o/o while generating an even greater percentsge increase in profits during the same period. He has been with AFPC for three of his 16 years in business.

The AWPA's annual award of merit was presented to Dr. James N. Roche, technical consultant to koppers Co. l)r. Rtrche, currently serving as c:hairman of the association's committr,e on plant operations and environmental control, has authored 28 technical pap€rs on wood preserving chemicals and processes.
Principal speakers included Ken Patrick, Western Wood Products Assn., who spoke on "The Occupational Safety and Health Act and How to Live With lto" and Walter Hamilton, executive director, National Industrial Pollution Control Council, who discussed ecology.
A broad spectrum series of discussions covering technological achievements relating to handling of forest products were offered in numerous -meetings.
