David Ott Wilson. 79. retired owner of the now-defunct Star Lumber Co., Santa Fe, N.M., died

Dec. 13,2000.

A native of Wichita, Ka., he graduated from Kansas State University and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Ronald Jerry Garka, 58, retired co-owner and vice president,

Mill Co., Marysville, Wa., died March 19 in Everett, Wa.

A lifelong resident of Everett, he was a member of Hoo-Hoo International and was international president in 1998-1999.

He retired from Garka Mill Co. in 1996 after many years in the lumber business.

Rod Thompson, 57, millwork salesman, Sierra Pacific Industries, Redding, Ca., died March 2 in Red Bluff, Ca.

He joined Sierra Pacific in 1995 after an extensive career in the millwork industry, including a stint with Fibreboard Corp.

Joseph Morris Goldenberg, 75, retired owner of the recently shuttered Goldenberg Plywood & Lumber Co., Lynwood, Ca., died March 9.

He served in the U.S. Navy as a medical corpsman in the Pacific during WWII and attended UCLA until he and his brother, Irwin, founded Goldenberg Plywood & Lumber in t946.

The firm was later acquired bY U.S. Wood Products, Golden, Co., which closed the yard this past January six months after filing for Chapter I I bankruptcy reorganization (see Jan., p. 23).

Irving Gertler, 93, founder, All American Home Center, Downey, Ca., died Feb. 19 in Santa Monica.

A native of Poland, he opened All American Home Center in 1959, reportedly the first home center in the nation.

Donald Kruse. 64. co-founder and managing partner of Kruse Enter-prises LLC, Albuquerque, N.M., died March 10.

A 40-year industry veteran, he worked for Kaibab Forest Products before co-founding Sagebrush Sales Inc. in 1966.

After Ply Gem Industries acquired Sagebrush Sales in 1988, he served on Ply Gem's executive managment committee until co-founding Kruse Enterprises in 1998.

Leslie G. Passmore, 88, retired owner, Central Valley Box & Lumber, Oroville, Ca., died March 13 in Chico, Ca.

A native of Los Gatos, Ca., he owned and operated LP Timber Co., Oroville, Ca., prior to opening Central Valley Box & Lumber, from which he retired in 1995.

He was a member of Hoo-Hoo International and worked in the lumber industry for 55 years.
