Forestry lnitiative Revised

Seeking to further revolutionize forestry practices, the American Forest & Paper Association has revised the Sustainable Forestry Initiative Standard.

The new 2000 standard includes five sustainable forestry principles, I I objectives and 3 specific performance measures detailing obligations that program participants must abide by. Sixteen companies have been expelled from AF&PA for failure to uphold the SFI Standard since it was adopted in October 1994.

The program's exacting standard and conservation practices encompass wildlife and water quality protection, biodiversity conservation, harvesting practices and a range of other conservation goals. An independent panel, comprised of experts from the environmental, professional, conservation, academic and public sectors, regularly reviews the program and advises AF&PA on its progress.

WMMPA's Weiglein Honored

Robert Weiglein, executive vice president of the Wood Moulding & Millwork Producers Association, Woodland, Ca., has received the group's highest honor, the Warren C. Jimerson Award of Excellence.

Weiglein began his career in 1962 with Snider Lumber Products, Turlock, Ca., where he built and managed a modern moulding plant until the company was sold to Fibreboard in 1989. After serving in two managerial
