Diamond Manager Retires

Glen Dietz has been honored upon his retirement as general sales manager of Diamond International's California Lumber Division with a gift (see photo) and a retirement dinner attended by more than 70 at a local Red Bluff, Ca., restaurant.

Long active in a wide range of civic activities, Dietz is a past mayor of Red Bluff.

Wayne Murphy has been named to succeed Dietz. Murphy began his career with Damond in 1958 as a laborer and worked his way uP though a series of jobs.

Champion Supports Olympics

Champion International Corporation will be the only forest products company among several dozen American corporations sponsoring telecast coverage of the Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles in July and August.

In addition to a series of commercial messages tied into its corporate advertising theme of "Planting Seeds for the Future," the company will sponsor I I kilometers of the crosscountry Torch Relay in which amateur runners carry the Olympic flame from New York City to Los Angeles in an 82-day, 12,000-mile procession through 1,500 cities and towns.

Arizona Industry Annual

A far reaching program featuring experts from within and without the building materials industry wi[ highlight the 63rd annual convention of the Arizona Lumber & Builders Supply Association, May ?,0-22 at the Regrstry Resort, Scottsdale, Az.

"Never Look Back" is the theme selected by convention chairman Michael M. O'Malley. Following opening remarks by Don Hossack, president of the association, and a welcome by Herb Drinkwater, mayor of Scottsdale, Art Jacobs, productivity specialist, industrial engineer and lecturer, will outline new dimensions in achieving productive results in his talk entitled "Quality ImprovementA Different Approach."

David Cutler, editor-publisher of The Merchant Magazine, will be the second speaker of the morning. "Thking the Ad Nauseum Out of Your Advertising" will tell what is right and wrong about retail advertising and how to make improvements. Keynote luncheon speaker will be Senator Dan Quayle (R-In.) giving "A Report from Washington."

Advantages of frame over masonry in construction including inplace costs, energy performance, durability and insurance rating will be discussed by Frank Stewart, district manager, Western Wood Products Association, during the afternoon. Final afternoon program will feature a panel of experts discussing cost control.

William Morrow, president, National Lumber & Building Material Dealers Association, Washington, D.C., will open the next day's session, followed by Dr. Gary Driggs, president and chief executive officer, Western Savings, Phoenix, Az., providing "An Economic Forecast for the Industry."

The board of director's luncheon will follow the annual meeting and election of officers.

Scheduled social events include a steak fry with Western dancing, a cocktail party for wholesalers, a dinner dance and golf and tennis tournaments.

Ladies will be entertained with special programs including a presentation on diamonds by Joseph Arundale, Arundale & Associates, a mineral intelligence firm.
