Cedar Producer Acquired

Fred Tebb & Sons, Inc., Tacoma, Wa., agreed to purchase Colonial Cedar Co., Tacoma.

Fire At Redwood Empire Mill

Redwood Empire's Cloverdale, Ca., sawmill was shut down last month after an electrical fire broke out at the end of January.

The fire, which started in the motor control panel of the sawmill, began after midnight Jan. 30. Officials have determined it was a mechanical failure and not arson.

Sales and marketing mgr. John Reger said the planer was undamaged and continued to work off and on throughout February as the mill finished up its remaining lumber.

Reger noted that some mill workers had their hours pared down because of the work interruption.

No injuries were reported and the fire was contained to the panel-no other mill equipment was damaged.

TreeSource Out Of Bankruptcy

TreeSource Industries, Portland, Or., has emerged from Chapter I I bankruptcy after 28 months to become a privately held company.

Under the reorganization plan, which was confirmed by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court Jan. 11, the company's former senior secured lenders now own l00%o of reorganized TreeSource's common stock.

With previous common stockholders losing their entire stake in the bankruptcy, the company is now owned by investment group Tree-Source Acquisition Co. LLC.

The new ownership hopes to avoid the large debts accumulated by previous owners by continuing to operate four profitable mills and selling four unprofitable mills while keeping four moneymaking mills in operation. "The company had a history of operating both competitive and uncompetitive mills, and the uncompetitive mills continually weakened the balance sheet," said TreeSource principal Jim Schueler, also president of Rocky Mountain Log Homes. Hamilton. Mt.

Judge Halts Oregon Timber Sale

D.R. Johnson had won a bid from the U.S. Forest Service to log 4.8 million bd. ft. of timber in the Ochoco National Forest.
