Robert O. "Bob" Compton, 82, retired president and gen. mgr., Compton Lumber Co., Seattle, Wa., died Dec. 6 from complications following open heart surgery.

He joined the family business at a young age and was named president and general mgr. in 1959. The lumber company has been run by the Compton family for 105 years. Compton's son, Steve, now runs the business along with other family members.

Compton retired in 1994. He was a member of the Western Buildins Material Association's 40 Year Club.-

George Cudworth, 85, retired purchasing agent for the now-defunct James Lumber Co., Huntington Beach, Ca., died Feb. l3 from complications related to Parkinson's disease.

A native of Canada, Cudworth served with the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II.

He started his career in 1946 with Ward & Hanington, Santa Ana, Ca., retiring from James Lumber Co. in r 983.

Mildred R. Comfort. 89. cofounder, Douglas County Lumber Co., Roseburg, Or., died Dec. 30.

A native of Centralia, Or., she founded Douglas County Lumber in l94l with her husband, Sidney E. Comfort. He died in 1998.

C.J. Mills, 56, owner, Allied Veneer Co., Los Angeles, Ca., died Jan. 30 in Fullerton, Ca.

A native of Ohio, Mills served in the Navy from 1963 to 1965. In 1969 he joined his father at Allied Veneer. His son, Jonathan, is now president.

Charles Russell Johnson, 88, retired president, Union Lumber Co., Fort Bragg, Ca., died Feb. 14 in San
