cess redwood and Douglas fir harvested from the company's young growth stands, from thinning ofyoung stands, and from small old growth. "Small logs" at Fortuna are up to 43" in diameter.

In June 1972 the company started making its fir-sawn Douglas fir plywood sidings, which have become an important part of its product line. Production volume was increased in 1971 and will be further increased this yeaf.

An unhappy event on August 8, 1972, was the sudden death of Stanwood A. Murphy, age 53, president and great grandson of the company's founder.

ln 1973 a variety of new products from young growth redwood was initiated. Another corporate activity in the financial field was the development of an investor relations program. ln 1974 a unique mixed car unitized loading process was developed-called Palco-Pak-which has become very popular. ln 1976 Pacific built a fish rearing pond at Scotia and last year built two more at Yager Creek. These are described in an article on page 28. Thus fish are added to the company's policy of sustained yield. ln 1977 unitized mixed order truck shipments into the Midwest, South and East were emphasized. More than 40% of shipments in 1977 were moved by truck.

In 1975 The Pacific Lumber Company's stock was listed on the New York Stock Exchange and on the Pacific Stock Exchange last year.

Felix Johnson, Gig Harbor, Wa., is recovering from an operation. He recently sold his interest in Borgen & Johnson Building Supply, Inc. to his partner George Borgen. Previously, Felix had been with the Western Building Materiat Assn. for l4 years.

Paul Nobmann has placed his Old Adobe Timber Products Co. in Petaluma, Ca., on inactive status for present and has joined San Marin Lumber, San Rafael, Ca.

John King, Southwest Forest Industries, is back in Phoenix after a recent Oregon business trip.
