Available in 4x8, 4x9 and 4xl0 ft. sizes in four colorfast patterns and two woodgrain designs, the l/2" Duraform panels require only utility knife, straightedge and hammer for cutting and fitting.

Pattern-wrapped edges allow the panels to be butted together and nailed or glued directly to wood framing. They are washable and fire rated.

New Angled Deck Designs

EPA: Radon Danger "Baloney"

The theory that higher levels of radioactive radon gas exist in tight, energy efficient homes was shot down by EPA officials who called it "baloney" and "hot air."

Stories in both Reader's Digest and National Geographic in recent months have perpetuated the myth. A brochure mailed by Sears, Roebuck to promote radon detection devices said, "The levels of radon tend to be the highest in energy efficient homes that are sealed, insulated and weatherstripped to prevent the leakage of air. "

"That myth persists, I guess, because it sounds logical," an EPA branch head explained, adding that it's just as logical to think that a tight home could keep radon concentrations down. "After all, what can't leak out, can't leak in."

Hardboard Siding Use Grows

The 1990s will see increased use of hardboard siding in up-scale homes.

Architects and builders told the American Hardboard Association in an informal poll that hardboard siding is selected, in many instances, because of the textures and styles available. The stability and uniformity of engineered wood was another criterion cited as often influencing their decision to specify hardboard siding.
