Television I nnovations

A combination telephone,/television/AM-FM clock radio, a series of pastelcolored l0 in. diagonal color tv sets and five models with stereo adapter jacks for use with a new stereo adapter have been introduced by Quasar.

The telephone/tv clock radio reportedly allows the user to awaken to television programming, FM or AM radio, or an alarm or to go to sleep with the television or radio controlled by the electronic sleep timer. The telephone is said to feature automatic tvl radio mute and auto redial in addition to a ringer loudness control.

The new tv features remote control operation and new vivid colors. A five function remote control color coordinated miniature model of the set itself is included. Other features include a swivel base. LED channel indicators, automatic fine tuning, glare guard and an earphone jack.

The stereo adapter reportedly allows the user to receive stereo audio or second audio program wherever possible through any Quasar television equipped with a multiplex output terminal by attaching the decoder to the television and to a stereo amplifier and speakers, either the television's or an external arr;urgement. The adapter is said to sense and indicate the type of audio being received, stereo, mono or second audio program.

The adapter also fleatures a noise reduction system.

Like a Snowballln Hell

Tiny pellets that are sprinkledon by hand to turn one man into an entire shoveling crew, De-lcer from Garon Products Inc. has heat generating exothermic action.

Said to be 24 times more effective than rock salt at 0o, the product reportdly is 10090 noncorrosive and completely harmless to vegetation and underlying surfaces. The pellets are said-to be effective down to -54oF.

Duster For White Glovers

Designed to dust hard to reach areas, the Extend-A-Duster has four plastic tubes (made of high impact styrene) which can be extended, and locked with a slight twist in an extended position.

The feather duster fastened to the end can be used to reach up and dust areas with an approximate height of 20 feet.

When not extended. the duster is 48 in. in length. Suggested areas for use include skylights, cathedral ceilings, air conditioning,4reating vents and ceilins beams.

OnePiece Bicycle Stand

Handi-Stand, a new concept in bicycle stands by Peco Mfg. Co., utilizes polyethylene.

Said to be virtually indestructible, it reportdly won't swell, shrink, rot, rust or corrode and is impervious to water, salt, mud, oil, solvents, acids, caustics, grease, pitch and sunlight. The color is molded in, so that scraping, sanding and painting are not required.

The one-piece design eliminates welds or joints that come apart, as well as bars for children to climb or play on. There are no sharp corners and the surface won't scratch bicycles. Installation requires drilling four holes with the masonry bit supplied and hammering in the four security pins, also supplied.

Designer French Doors

New French doors from Nicolai have l5 individual beveled glass panes divided by polished brass. The doors are made from select vertical grain fir in l-3l8 " and l-3/4" thicknesses.

Where's The Green?

Sunwood, a new pressure treated wood product from Osmose, has a warm reddish brown color and reportedly lasts longer than ordinary untreated wood products.

When properly used, it is said to last for up to 4O years or more. The claim is backed with a 4O year farm and residential warranty.

SnapOn DoorTrims

A new trimming out option for onsite installation of the Benchmark Adjusta-fit steel frame and insulated door system has been introduced by General Products Co.

The pre-painted, snap-on metal trim can be used inside or outside, mixed and matched with wood trim.

Pre-punched holes in the frame allow the installer to screw in furnished clips. The metal trim is then snapped into place over the clips. Mitered corner locks use slit-fit reinforcements to assure proper fit and alignment of the header and side trim at each corner.

Programmable Thermostat

A new programmable microelectronic thermostat offering automatic 24-hour, seven-day-a-week control of heating and air conditioning equipment is from the Control Products Division of Johnson Controls.

It allows programming of specific temperatures for up to five different time periods during the day or night to help consumers conserve energy and save money.

Replacement Windows

A custom casement vinyl replacement window line has been introduced by Season-All Industries.

The 13 residential windows line, called NuPrime Comfort Casement, is said to offer higher insulation than other casement windows.

Features include a thermally broken frame and sash with 7/8 " double or triple-insulating glass, EPDM bulb weatherseal, heavyduty crank and hinge. Outside panes can be washed from inside the house.

Barbecue Grills On Wheels

Three different cart styles and a variety of grill and burner sizes are offered in the 1985 line of Charmglow barbecues.

The 12 new models feature durable aluminum construction, solid state igniter, twin individually controlled burners, cooking area with a warming rack and a side-handled. two-wheeled cart. Additional features include a window for viewing, shelving, porcelain enameled cooking grids, and larger grill heads and burners.

All are reportedly backed by a fiveyear limited warranty on both casting and H{ype burner, and a one-year warranty on all other parts.

Features include LCD quartz display of temperature, time and day of the week; choice of different programs for each day of the week; capability to switch from heating to cooling operation during temporary weather changes without re-programming; solid-state circuitry and the use of two size "C" alkaline batteries.

Asbestos.Free Board

Asbestos-free, fireproof and waterproof, Ultra-Board from Weyerhaeuser is said to be machinable with conventional tools with no splinters, breaks, chips or cracks.

In addition, it can be painted, papered, tiled or paneled. Useful for garage walls and ceilings, furnace room paneling, outdoor sheds, attic safety walls, it can provide moisture and vermin-proof basement wall liners.

It is available in four thicknesses.

D-l-Y Plumbing Flexibility

Stainless steel flexible connectors are new for the d-i-y plumber from the Aqua-Flo Corp.

Warranted for l0 full years, the patented polymer inner lining reportedly floats inside a tough, braided, stainless steel cover for total flexibilitv.

The connectors. which are said to take working pressures of 600 PSI (max. 2400 PSI) and temperatures from 5o to 230" F., are useful for faucets, toilet tanks, water heaters. washers, water softeners, heat pumps, heating, air conditioning, dishwashers, ice makers, RV's and boats.

Environmental John

Two new water-saving, toilet-flushing devices have been introduced by Water Control lnternational, lnc.

One is a domestically designed and produced flushometer/tank and elongated vitreous china bowl combination, while the other is a universal replacement flush tank. Both are available in white and six decorator colors. Installation is made by conventional methods.

Outdoor Window Accessories

Door canopies and window curtains for outdoor home improvement markets are new fronr T.J. Bottom Industries, Inc.

Offering the same features as their awnings, they use fabric woven from vinyl-coated polyester yarn. This reportedly provides a wide range of consumer benefits, including lower cooling costs, attractive appearance, maintenance-free performance, and "two-way" visibility.

The door canopies are available in a variety of colors and patterns in standard widths of 4, 5 and 6 ft. The window curtains are also available in coordinating fabric colors and patterns in standard widths of 4, 5, 6, 8,10 and 12 ft. The awnings offer a variety of decorator-style fabric patterns in standard sizes of 31,37, 48,62 and 74 in.

ThreeWay View Cabinets

The Oak Hill Series of bathroom cabinets has been introduced by Broan Mfg. Co.

Providing three-way viewing and three storage areas, the series features "one-touch" spring-loaded magnetic door releases for reportedly easyopen, easy{lose operation.

The cabinets come in a light honey or dark golden finished natural oak hardwood frame and feature matching woodtone sides. There is a built-in top light.

Half and Half Windorvs

Two new sizes have been added to Webb Manufacturing, Inc.'s line of molded half-round decorative windows.

The molded windows are now available in round and half-round styles in a variety of sizes. Optional interior casing kits are offered in both colonial and modern designs. Extension jambs can be ordered to facilitate fitting the window to a variety of wall thicknesses.

All of these molded windows are said to combine a durable exterior frame with natural wood inner frame. The outer frame, primer-sealed, seamless molded urethane with an integral nail finlflashing, reportedly provides an all-weather barrier.

Inner frames of Ponderosa pine can be painted, varnished or stained to match existing interior trim. Grilles of natural wood are said to snap out for trouble-free window cleanins.

To store tools, Hyde has introduced four types of tool pouches designed to accommodate varying consumer needs. All are made of heavy duty, top grain moccasin leather. with rivet-reinforced stitched construction and wide tunnel belt loops.

The nail/tool bag with hammer loops is an 8 pocket design with a l0" by 8" main pocket, a6-l/2" by 5 " medium pocket, six small tool pockets and two leather hammer loops.

The nail/drywall tool bag is available with a l0" by 8" main pocket and a 7 " by 3-l/2" inner pocket.

The miniature spindled railings reportodly can be used in cabinets, shelving and furniture, for plate rail, in RVs and boats and in hundreds of other dj-y craft projects.

All galley rails are said to be precision assembled and crafted from furniture quality hardwoods. Proper spindle spacing reportedly allows sections to be butted end to end while maintaining proper spacing, and corner posts are available to eliminate the need for mitered corners.

A cement-based, selfJeveling floor underlayment designed to eliminate troweling has been introduced by Gemite Unique Products Inc.

Sure-Flo is designed for use as a leveling and smoothing layer prior to application of indoor floor coverings on cast-in-place and prerast concrete floors. Useful for retrofit of old concrete, quarry tile, terrazzo, and wood floors, it can also be applied over cut back adhesive.

Mixed with water, the quick-setting product reportedly can be pumped. Other advantages are said to include no sanding, grinding, curing nor latex milk needed. It can be featheredged and is walkable after 4 to 5 hours, ready for floor covering in l5-?A hours. It's reportedly non-toxic and nonflammable.
