Blish-Mize Buys Galbraith Wholesale
Galbraith Wholesale Supply Co., Dallas, Tx., agreed to sell its Lubbock, Tx., operation to Blish-Mize Co., Atchison, Ks.
Founded in 1934 as Galbraith Steel & Supply Co., GWS operates a distribution warehouse in Lubbock serving over 500 lumber and hardware dealers and specialty retailers in Texas, Arizona and New Mexico.

Hechinger Shutters 34 More
Hechinger Co. is closing 34 more stores, including a Builders Square unit in Midland, Tx.
Other Builders Square closures include all 16 in the Chicago area, all nine in the Cleveland area, two in Portland, Or., and single stores in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Las Vegas, Nv. Two Hechinger's units in Pennsylvania will be closed, plus one in Maryland.
After the closures, the chain will operate 206 stores.
Forest Road Building Banned
The Clinton Administration has imposed an l8-month moratorium on road building in 33 million acres of national forests, excluding large tracts in the Northwest and Alaska.
The temporary halt is a precursor to a larger road management plan to be developed next year covering all l9l million acres of national forests.
American Forest and Paper Association president W. Henson Moore termed the ban "a disaster" that will result in "forests filled with dead or dying trees, killed either by insects, sion of Blish-Mize and retain is DC. disease or catastrophic wildfire."

Quota Eyes Notched Studs
U.S. Customs has proposed reclassifying notched 2x4 and 2x6 studs to count against Canadian mills' quotas under the U.S.-Canada softwood lumber treaty.
Currently exempt as "carpentry and joinery," the studs are notched to accommodate electrical wiring, as are pre-drilled studs, which lost their exemption in December.
American Bayridge, the firm that first filed for pre-drilled studs' exemption, has appealed the decision. The appeal could take one to two years.
NAWLA Reformats Meeting
The North American Wholesale Lumber Association has developed a new format for its upcoming annual meeting to enhance networking opportunities.
Held May 1-4 in Tucson, Az., educational programming will appeal to business owners of all types, while the business sessions target members.
Speakers include Dr. Albert Bates, Profit Planning Group, and keynoter Captain Gerald Coffee, recounting his seven years as a POW in North Vietnam.
This year's Contact Session, the management-level complement to NAWLAs Traders Market. will be a single, extended session.
Robber Hits Lowe's, Depot
Showing no favortism, a suspected armed robber frequents both Home Depot and Lowe's.
Aloysius T. Chisolm, 25, was arrested Dec. 16 reportedly after robbing a nearby Home Depot, only to leave in haste when several good Samaritans intervened. A chase ensued to the Lake Square Mall, where Chisolm allegedly fired at his pursuers, before surrendering to authorities
Police later charged Chisolm with the Dec. 9 robbery at the Eustis, Fl., Lowe's. The suspect previously served six years in jail for aggravated battery and robbery without a weapon.

The North American Building Material Distribution Association has a new logo featuring clean, bold lines to represent a sense of movement.
"The long-standing graphic of the residential house just does not accurately represent the membership pro- file anymore," explains NBMDA executive director Kevin Gammonley. "It was definitely time for a change."
Insulation Continues Growth
Worldwide demand for thermal insulation materials is forecast to rise 5Vo annually through 2002 to $16.1 billion, according to the Freedonia Group.
Foamed plastic insulation will experience the fastest growth, rising 5.8Vo to $6.8 billion. Mineral wool insulation will increase 4.7Vo, slightly faster than fiberglass.
