Ever thought about living in the same house with your grandparents, parents, or other loved ones? You’re not alone. A lot of people are choosing to buy multi-generational homes where everyone can live together. Let’s check out why they think it’s a good idea to see if it might be a good fit for you, too.
WhyPeopleAreChoosingMulti-GenerationalLiving
According to the National Association of Realtors (NAR), here are just a few key reasons buyers opted for multi-generational homes over the past year (see graph below):
ReasonsforPurchasingaMulti-GenerationalHome PercentofRespondents

Two of the top reasons had to do with aging parents. 27% of buyers chose multi-generational homes so they could take care of their parents more easily. And 19% did it to spend more time with them. A lot of older adults want to age in place, and living in a home with loved ones can help them do just that. If your parents are hoping to do the same, but need a bit of help, a multi-generational home may be worth considering.
Whether you're looking to save money or want to take care of your loved ones, buying a multi-generational home might be a good idea for you.
But buying a multi-generational home isn’t just about being close or taking care of the people you love it can save you money, too 22% of buyers say they picked a multigenerational home to cut down on costs, and 11% needed a bigger house multiple incomes could afford together
Sharing costs like the mortgage and utilities can make owning a home more affordable This is especially helpful for first-time homebuyers who might find it challenging to buy a place on their own in today’s market
As Axios explains:
“Financial concerns and caregiving needs are two of the major reasons people live with their parents (and parents’ parents) ”

Looking for the perfect multi-generational home is a bit trickier than finding a regular house You’ve got more people, which means more opinions and needs to think about It’s kind of like putting together a puzzle where all the pieces need to fit perfectly

Thinking You Have To Carry a Balance To Build Credit!
The truth: No, you don’t! You can build a great score without paying interest on your purchases. This misunderstanding does a lot of damage!
Here’s the responsible — and cheap — way to use credit cards:
Have a budgeted amount that will go on your credit card each month
Track your spending so you stay within your card’s budget.
Don’t charge more than 30% of your available credit Keep it below 10% if you want to boost your score quickly.
Pay your bill in full every month and always by the due date
Stick to this plan and you’ll be on your way to an excellent credit score And don’t forget to pay all of your bills on time, not just credit cards.
Here are some impactful modern backyard ideas to breathe new life into your outdoor space, whatever it may be. From pergolas and drapery to brick pavers and landscaping, spruce up your backyard with these styling tips big and small, courtesy of interior designers.
Nothing makes an outdoor seating area feel cozy, elevated, and chic quite like a sleek fire pit Not only does this addition contribute to the aesthetic and overall ambiance, it doubles as a low-key, hours-long outdoor activity that will take backyard hangs well into the evening hours. Go with a built-in cement or brick paver pit for a scene that feels more resort than campsite.
Whether you ’ re looking to keep your backyard free of prying eyes or simply hide unsightly walls and equipment, putting up a fence is a no-brainer. It doesn’t take pounding posts into the ground to enclose your space or create a sense of seclusion with a quick trip to Home Depot, Havenly’s VP of Creative and Design, Shelby Girard created a privacy fence to blur the neighbor’s view from their kitchen into Shelby’s urban backyard With a modest budget and a free weekend, they were able to knock this project out just in time for summer outdoor dinner parties
You can easily create a chic poolside cabana worthy of a boutique hotel with or without an actual pool Simply scoop a few cabana chairs in varying colors and patterns, add a fringed umbrella, and finish the look with handy side tables and pillows for a cozy outdoor setup This setup would work equally well along a small balcony, porch, or patio!
If your outdoor space consists of just gravel or grass, it can be hard to differentiate lounging and dining spaces To create separate “ zones ” and add a solid surface for furniture, we always recommend installing a secondary floor surface similar to using area rugs to break up an open floor plan If you don’t want to break the bank, add brick pavers in lieu of a full-on deck installation. Keep a border of grass or stone to plant a garden or add organic interest to your backyard, and then lay brick pavers to help ground your furniture (and ensure your glass of wine won’t topple mid-party).
Seriously, what’s not to love about pergolas? They provide much-needed shade and sturdy support for cute outdoor light fixtures, all while lending a charming, whimsical touch to any backyard. Finish the look with twinkle lights, hanging lanterns, comfortable seating, and playful throw pillows for a next-level outdoor oasis.

There’s no reason to blow your budget on a closet overhaul. If you find yourself daydreaming about Pinterest-perfect closets but a complete renovation isn’t in the cards right now, there are plenty of ways to get the look for less. hether it’s choosing a more affordable system or infusing your unique style into the space, these changes will make a notable difference in your closet no matter the size.
Standard wire shelving is exactly what it sounds like: Basic and boring. Rather than hiring a closet design company to install a costly custom system, you can swap out the wire for something better, yet more reasonably priced. Track systems are a smart alternative because they’re relatively easy to put together, can be modified or added onto as your needs change, and, although most versions are comprised of ventilated or wire shelves, many also provide alternative options such as wood or melamine. You can also dress up a plain wire shelving system with simple wood covers and added hardware.
There’s no shortage of IKEA hacks on the internet so if you're relatively handy, you can construct your own closet system with minimal investment. You’ll probably find the sweat equity to be worthwhile because you can create a closet from scratch and completely personalize its storage by combining popular IKEA furniture pieces
3. DOUBLE UP ON HANGING SPACE
If your closet sports a single rod, you’re doing yourself (and your clothes) a disservice The wasted space underneath your hanging clothes can be put to good use and, consequently, will improve the closet’s overall appearance especially if it’s currently cramped and cluttered. By installing a secondary rod below the existing one, you can move half of your clothes onto it and give everything more breathing room.
4. USE OPEN AND CLOSED STORAGE
No matter what kind of closet upgrade you choose to do, always take into account what you need to store in it. Having all open shelving sounds easy and straightforward, but if you plan to store things like socks, underwear, or jewelry, you'll need drawers as well. Not only will closed storage allow you to hide visual clutter, having a mix of open and closed storage also gives the illusion of a higher-end custom closet.
Even if it consists of mundane all-white shelving, you can bring a DIY closet to life by involving minor design details. A simple technique is to paint or wallpaper (peel and stick will work too!) the back panels in between shelves (or the back wall itself if panels are absent) in a bold hue or cheerful pattern The pops of color peeking through your clothes, shoes, and accessories will add a fun, customized element to the space
Use any open shelves, especially those at eye level, to show off your favorite pieces. Stuff a designer handbag so that it sits upright and sort evening clutches in an acrylic divider. Use stands to prop up your favorite hat or statement necklace. Polish your fancy pumps and let them act as a piece of art when you’re not wearing them By strategically displaying your best accessories, you keep them in good condition and create a boutique look right in your own closet.
Any space looks infinitely more put together when it has a cohesive design, and your closet is no exception. Switching to a set of matching hangers or coordinating baskets is minor investment compared to a total overhaul, but it still gives you a lot of bang for your buck by pulling the look together. While you’re at it, ditch the mismatched original shoe boxes and replace them with something like clear drop-front organizers.
This idea might seem insignificant and costs very little, but it’s bound to create a big impact on the closet as a whole Substitute existing closet hardware with something that stands out, such as antique pulls or crystal knobs to give the closet a one-of-a-kind aesthetic.
