Review to look at how local communities are run
PEOPLE in Hinckley & Bosworth are being given their say on how their local communities are run. This is because the Borough Council is reviewing parish and town council electoral arrangements in the borough and wants to hear people’s views. Called a Community Governance Review, it will look at how local communities across the area are governed to make sure the arrangements are appropriate and relevant. It has been 10 years since the last review took place. The review will consider: • creating, merging, altering or abolishing parishes; • the naming of parishes and the style of new parishes; • the electoral arrangements for parishes (the ordinary year of election; council size; the number of councillors to be elected to the council, and parish warding), and • grouping parishes under a common parish council. The terms of reference can be viewed on the council’s website at www.hinckley-bosworth.gov. uk/communitygovernance, at the council offices in Argents Mead or a copy can be supplied upon request. Maps showing the current boundaries can also be viewed on the website or at the offices.

South Charnwood High School pupils “Rock” in London
An overnight trip to London was organised by Miss White in the Music and Drama department on the13th and 14th March for pupils at South Charnwood High School. Over the two days pupils got to experience the West End show “We Will Rock You”, went on a sightseeing tour of London; ate out at a London restaurant in Covent Garden and took part in two workshops at Pineapple Dance studios with members of the West End cast. As the school group arrived at Pineapple Dance Studios the pop group “Blue” were just leaving. Mr Whitley, a teacher from school, accompanying the pupils, managed to convince “Blue” that he would be a valuable addition to the group and their first publicity picture is printed above.

Concert in aid of Cruse Bereavement Care On Saturday March 24th a very appreciative audience enjoyed a concert performed by Highcliffe Harmony. This was the second visit to Markfield of this choir and once again we were not disappointed with the standard of entertainment. There was something for everyone and also two excellent soloists. The interval saw everyone tucking into homemade cakes which seemed to go down well as there were very few left! A total of £395.30 was raised which will go to Cruse Bereavement Care to support the work of bereavement support workers who give their time freely and support the bereaved in their own homes.
