New office scheme launched at Waterside regeneration project

STEPHEN GEORGE + Partners LLP (SGP) is looking forward to the start on site of the 1,754m2 Grade A flexible office building, for energy and water supplier Yü Energy, as part of the Leicester Waterside regeneration project. Complete with ancillary facilities, car and cycle parking and onsite landscaping, the project will break ground in March 2020. Alongside Keepmoat’s housing scheme, the multi million pound, three-storey building for client Brackley Property Developments, is an important element in the first phase of Leicester City Council’s ambitious Waterside regeneration. Says Michael Barker, Senior Partner at SGP: “Leicester City Council wanted a high quality office building due to the prominence of the site, visible from the A50 and Sanvey Gate. The architectural language of the design took elements from the industrial heritage of the area to create an urban form that balances the townscape aspirations of the housing development with commercial constraints.”

Housebuilder searching for new apprentices across the North Midlands BARRATT and David Wilson Homes is continuing its positive work to support local employment, by creating new roles to develop talent in the construction industry across the North Midlands. The five-star housebuilder aims to recruit three new trade apprentices specialising in bricklaying to work across its developments in Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Warwickshire. Chris Southgate (right), Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes North Midlands said: “The construction industry is continuing to grow and this is an exciting time for anyone with an interest in housebuilding to join a market leading company. “As one of the country’s top developers we are absolutely committed to developing raw talent and I believe that we have a duty to provide these kinds of apprenticeship opportunities.” The new trade apprentices, who start in September, will be based on a housing development site in the county and will learn skills in bricklaying from experienced tradespeople for four days a week. They will also spend one day a week at college undertaking a qualification in their chosen field. All programmes are well-structured and tailored to individual needs. Apprentices will receive encouragement, support and guidance to help them develop, giving the skills and qualifications for a successful career.
