We’re sure that you won’t be disappointed and we, members of your local Amateur Dramatics Group, would be very appreciative of your support. There are tickets, (Adults £5, Concessions £4), left for the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday performances which may be booked on 01455 822148.
Concert raised over £500 THE CHRISTMAS Concert by Stanton Under Bardon Singers and Musicians on 11th December and Carols Round The Village on 14th December with over 35 singers including enthusiastic children, raised a wonderful sum of £534.00 for The Salvation Army Urgent Appeal, which helped the Homeless, Hungry, and Lonely over the Christmas period. Many, many thanks to all in Stanton Under Bardon who supported these events and to James and Irene of The Old Thatch Inn who supplied the mulled wine and mince pies after a hectic sing.

HOW WE CELEBRATED! FROM CAROL singing to the Queen’s speech, Brussels sprouts to bells, crackers to carols by candlelight, advent calendar to Christmas afternoon tea and many more, the Christmas traditions which were celebrated at Markfield Methodist Church festival showed the talents and ingenuity of church members and friends. Twenty three traditions were depicted by trees or arrangements making a wonderful display which was enjoyed by many visitors over the weekend. Twenty contributions were from church members and we are also grateful for the support of three village groups. The Markfield library staff provided “Twas the Night Before Christmas” – a fireplace complete with Santa’s legs and a mouse named Chris Mouse who, contrary to the poem, was often stirred by inquisitive children - and even a few adults! The bells on the Parish Council’s tree bore an inscription conveying the council’s Christmas good wishes which were gratefully received, and Markfield WI’s knitted Christmas dinner (hence the sprouts) delighted and intrigued us all. The central display was a pile of attractively-wrapped presents with the crib as the focal point, reminding us that Jesus is the gift of Christmas. We were asked that in our giving and receiving of presents we might remember the first Christmas. As well as enjoying the significance of each tradition there was the opportunity to be part of the tradition of carol singing. For an hour on Saturday afternoon favourite carols were sung during a café-style session and everyone left feeling that they had truly imbibed the Christmas spirit.

Have a heart ... THE PHOTO on the right shows Anne, Ken and Glenda presenting a cheque for £440 to Russell Brickett of Wishes 4 Kids. The money was raised at a charity dance at The Club, Bagworth in November. This is a very worthwhile local charity and Russell assured everyone that the money would be well spent in order to make a wish come true for a very deserving child. The next charity dance is on Friday 5th February at 8 pm at The Club, Bagworth. Again another very deserving charity has been chosen to be the recipient of the money raised. The charity is the British Heart Foundation and the date coincides with events taking place nationally on that day in order to provide much needed cash. People attending the charity dance are encouraged to wear something red. Music will be provided by Ken’s CDs. Entrance is £2.50 and further money is raised by a raffle which takes place during that evening. This is always a well attended and very enjoyable event. If you are unable to attend, but would like to make a donation, this can be done on 01530 230467.
