Space Park Leicester receives £13.75 million boost from Government

David Wilson Homes site manager recognised as one of the best in the country A SITE MANAGER for David Wilson Homes in Wigston has won a top national award for the quality of the homes he is building from the National HouseBuilding Council (NHBC).

The University of Leicester’s new Manufacturing, Engineering, Technology and Earth Observation Research Centre (METEOR) has received nearly £14 million in funding through Round 6 of Research England’s flagship capital investment scheme, the UK Research Partnership Investment Fund (UKRPIF). This funding will leverage a further £50 million of investments in space and Earth observation (EO) research in Leicester. METEOR will be a key part of Space Park Leicester, a new, world-leading research, innovation and teaching hub that will bring together academic research, including from the University of Leicester, and industrial space and Earth observation R&D. This internationally unique approach to understanding and delivering space capabilities will position the city of Leicester at the cutting edge of UK space technology. Space Park Leicester is due to open in late 2020.

Henry Patecki has worked for the housebuilders for 22 years and is the Site Manager at Wigston Meadows. He has been recognised by the NHBC for their annual Pride in the Job Quality Awards. Henry, who picked up his 17th award this year, said: “I’d like to thank my construction Director, Darren Langton and my Contracts Manager, Ian Bentley for their continued support, my assistants and a dedicated workforce. “Winning this award, for me, personally, is the ultimate industry accolade recognising all of the hard work, commitment and a massive team effort.” Known as the “Oscars of the housebuilding industry”, the Pride in the Job Quality Awards recognise the best run building sites in the country Henry Patecki has received 17 and are the highest accolade a Site Manager can achieve. NHBC Pride in the Job awards This year in total 84 Site Managers at parent company Barratt Developments won a Pride in the Job Quality award which is more than every other housebuilder. This is now the 15th year in a row that Barratt has won more of these prestigious awards than any other housebuilder. In addition to spot checks from the NHBC, Site Managers are judged on their consistency, attention to detail, leadership, technical expertise and health and safety, with just 450 individual winners being chosen from over 16,000 entrants. This year also marks the tenth year David Wilson Homes has been awarded five stars by the Home Builders Federation (HBF) for customer satisfaction. For David Wilson Homes to be awarded five stars means that more than 90% of its customers would be happy to recommend their home to a friend.
