Fans of science fiction celebrate films’ influence during sixth annual Star Wars Day DAVE SENNERUD | FOR THe senTineL ver since first watching Star Wars when he was 10 years old, eric reusche of Bolingbrook wanted to have an r2D2 of his own. So as an adult, he built one. Meanwhile, Chicago’s Jimmy hasse was inspired by the movie franchise to pursue a career in art. today, in addition to his job as a senior graphics editor, he draws comic book art. the world of Star Wars wasn’t “a long time ago” or “in a galaxy far, far away” Saturday; it was right in area resident’s backyard. the Star Wars universe invaded downtown Joliet for the Joliet Public Library’s sixth annual Star Wars Day. the library touted the festival as a celebration of science fiction and a way to encourage students to continue reading during their summer break.
