the Dominick’s in the Romeoville town center still remains vacant.
BY LAURA KATAUSKAS | StaFF reporter espite a prominent location at weber Road and 135th street, the site of a former Dominick’s grocery store remains empty. safeway, the parent company of Dominick’s, shuttered all of the grocery retailer’s locations in the chicago market in December 2013. shortly thereafter, many of the stores, such as those in nearby Downers grove and shorewood, were bought by other grocery chains, including Mariano’s and caputo’s. however, the Romeoville location still sits vacant with no sign of a new lease. news surfaced suggesting that alberston’s, the parent company of Jewel-osco, would pick up the store, located in the Romeoville town center. But Mayor John noak said there are no plans for a new store in the works. “we know there is interest in the site, and we have made it well known that we are more than willing to work with a company to get a store in there,” he said. “But, the lease is controlled by Jewel and is out of our hands.” see
