NASCAR legend Richard Petty will be inducted into the Chicagoland Speedway Legends Club as part of an action-packed four-day racing weekend for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 400, the first race in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup kickoff.

Legends Club has featured some of the most storied figures, families and personalities in the sport. This climate-controlled viewing suite offers an intimate setting with an all-inclusive package of beer and wine, plus two meals per day. Since its inception, the Legends Club has honored and recognized some of the most notable drivers in the sport, including Rusty Wallace, Richard Childress, Fred Lorenza, Dale Jarrett and Brett Bodine.

“It’s safe to say that Legends Club is certainly a comfortable and appropriate home for ‘The King,’ and it’s only fitting that he’s inducted during Chicagoland Speedway’s milestone 15th Anniversary,” said

Chicagoland Speedway President Scott Paddock. “It is truly an honor to have Richard’s storied career celebrated at our facility as we kick off the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup” On Saturday, Legends Club will induct Petty, as he accepts his position in Chicagoland Speedway’s history books. Petty already decorated NASCAR’s illustrious past by winning the NASCAR premier series championship seven times along with a record 200 wins during his storied career.

Statistically speaking, Petty is the most accomplished driver in the history of stock car racing and is one of the most respected figures in all of motorsports. In addition, Richard Petty was included in the inaugural class of the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2010.

“It’s always nice to be recognized for what you’ve done, especially from others,” said Petty. “That means a lot to us, our family and to everyone who has worked with us. It’s always been a team effort and not one single person to make it all happen. I’m just thankful that

Bolingbrook shines during annual Pathways Parade Parade concluded at the Town Center where a minifest was held It was a sweet treat for residents who lined the streets of Bolingbrook Sunday for its annual Pathways Parade. More than 100 participants, including a host of community organizations, schools, churches and local politicians walked in this year’s parade, its theme the Sweet 16.

Rambeaux and Lawrence Cooper, and the family of the year.

Rambeaux, called one of “scouting’s finest,” began her involvement with scouts more than 30 years ago and remains dedicated to its program. Long committed to community involvement, Rambeaux is also known as the Christmas Elf and has participated in the Bolingbrook’s 50th anniversary committee.

A 25-five year resident of Bolingbrook, Cooper was recognized for his commitment in bringing new opportunities to the community. Despite unfavorable odds, Cooper, revitalized an area of town, taking an older vacant building and turned it into Coop’s Den, a restaurant (at Boughton Road and Route 53) dedicated

to a new following of jazz lovers.

In addition, he has spearheaded a new event for the town, Juneteenth, now with plans for an even larger event coming on its third anniversary.

Inspiring others to catch the spirit, Mike and Marcy Cosgrove have been involved with youth sports and the Bolingbrook Lions Club for several years. Both of have worked tirelessly supporting the Bolingbrook Trojans and community basketball, serving as board members and leaders of the athletic association. They have two sons, Michael who graduated from Bolingbrook High School in 2015 and Sonny who is a freshman at BHS. The parade concluded at the Town Center where a minifest was held including food and music.

By Bugle Staff In what has become the largest volunteer service day, local members of the New Life Lutheran Church participated in “God’s Work. Our Hands.” on Sept. 11.

According to Pastor Rakel Evenson, the move is an annual serving emphasis initiated by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, New Life’s Lutheran denomination and because Sept.11 fell on a Sunday, the ELCA suggested focusing service on first responders, to honor and remember all who gave their lives on Sept. 11, 2001.

So New Life got busy with their hands.

They worked on various initiatives including creating thank you cards for all 108

Bolingbrook Police Officers.

All officers received more than one card); goodie bags filled with treats for all Bolingbrook Police Offices; delivered Sunday morning; goodie baskets for every firehouse, every shift in Bolingbrook; and a free car wash was held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Sunday; donations collected totaled $322 and were directed towards Power Connection, a local non-profit, in Bolingbrook.

In addition New Lifers collaborated with SNAPS, Stewards of Natural Areas and Parks, a division of the Bolingbrook Park District, and filled up many garbage bags throughout the Knights of Columbus Park, right behind Menards.

Still others, spent their Sunday afternoon doing light repair and upkeep for local senior citizens who couldn’t do the work themselves; a shed and garage was painted, bedrooms were painted and door jams fixed.

“New Life was happy to do this work and looks forward to more ways we can serve our local community,” said Evenson.

New College & Career Center designed to help BHS students plan for the future College and Career Center is open for general use before and after school Bolingbrook High School’s counseling team has launched an all-out college and career readiness campaign designed to encourage students to look beyond high school. “It is important that each student develops a personal career plan, and post-secondary education needs to be a part of that plan,” said VVSD Director of College and Career Readiness Dorletta Payton.

“Statistics tell us the more education and training a student completes, the higher the income earned.”

At the forefront of the BHS initiative is a new College and Career Center with computer access and printed materials for hundreds of colleges as well as information on financial aid, scholarships, potential majors, and careers, including the military and the trades.

“This is an area dedicated to college and career exploration,” said BHS College and Career Counselor Mark Ondracek. “The more help and resources we can give our students and their families, the better off they will be.”

In addition to scheduled classroom visits for all grade levels throughout the school year, the College and Career Center is open for general use before and after school

“We recognized a need to increase the number of students who enroll in college after they graduate from BHS,” said BHS Assistant Principal Dr. Albert Brass Jr., who has been the driving force behind the new campaign. “This room will serve as a foundation. It’s all encompassing for post high school planning. We’re very excited.”

“The Center’s location near the front entrance of the high school symbolizes its importance because helping our students prepare for their future careers and education is central to our mission as educators,” Payton added. “Whether a student plans on going to a 2 or 4 year college, an apprenticeship program

for a trade, or the military, they will be able to obtain information and advice that will help prepare them for their future career.”

As part of the renewed emphasis on college and career readiness, the BHS counseling team is hosting a series of college bus tours for students on school holidays. The first tour will head to University of Illinois at Chicago, Columbia and Benedictine on Columbus Day (Oct. 10). Other bus tours will take place on Veterans Day, Presidents Day and Pulaski Day. “A lot of students never set foot on a college campus. But you wouldn’t buy a car without test driving it. You shouldn’t attend a college without seeing it,” Ondracek said.

“Everyone needs to have a plan after high school,” he added. “If we can show our students different options and they walk out of here saying ‘I can see myself doing that’, then we have been successful.”

Student-directed plays on stage Sept. 23 at Bolingbrook High School Performances will take place on Friday, Sept. 23 at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Bolingbrook High School students will cast, direct and produce three short plays from The Bullying Collection on Friday, Sept. 23.

Senior Tess Schaeflein will present “I Was There,” junior Sean Miller will head up the production

of “F.A.B.U.L.O.U.S.” and junior Joe Callahan will direct “Dolphin.”

Senior Steven Drovie will serve as Student Technical Director for all three.

The evening will include two performances at 5 and 7 p.m. in the

Claar Family Auditorium. Both will immediately be followed by a short show by BHS’s A-Wing It! Improv Troupe.

Admission to all performances is free but any donations will be used to fund next year’s student-directed performances and for scholarships for theatre students.

An online petition is calling for a stop to a scheduled fundraiser for Republican Presidential Nominee Donald Trump at the Bolingbrook Golf Club.

The fundraiser, originally slated for Sept. 12, was pushed back to Sept. 19. The luncheon event

is reportedly aiming to catch major donors from the Chicago and Indiana area with the cost ranging from $1,000 per person to $250,000 per couple.

Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar is hosting the event, along with businessman and Ron Gidwitz, chairman of the group Illinois Trump Victory.

Suburban Families Against Hate started the online petition

Aug. 31 on change.org. As of Sept.

13, the petition has gathered 1,260 signatures.

The online petition reads: “Trump does not represent the interests nor the values of families in the suburban community of Bolingbrook. It is an insult to invite a billionaire to raise funds in a middle-class, hard working, vibrant, and diverse community.

Trump is not welcome in Bolingbrook!�

The group is now calling for a peaceful protest to be held across the street from the Bolingbrook Golf Club during the event.

By trudy lieberman Rural Health News Service Recently a tweet from Lauren Sausser, a fine health reporter I know in South Carolina, caught my eye.

“Crazy drug prices became personal.

My dad will start Keytruda regimen on Friday, $15,000 per infusion, once every three weeks indefinitely.” The high cost of pharmaceuticals had hit home!

Her 61-year-old father, Jim McCallister, who lives in Spartanburg, South Carolina, had been diagnosed with a melanoma discovered during a routine skin exam a few weeks earlier.

It had spread to his lungs. Doctors recommended the drug, which uses the body’s immune system to attack cancer cells and has showed promise in treating aggressive melanomas.

McCallister’s employer-provided insurance is paying for most of his treatment, and the family is looking into Merck’s co-pay program. In the meantime, McCallister faces several thousand dollars of out-of-pocket costs.

McCallister may be lucky cost-wise.

But the fact remains: Somebody is paying for the high cost of Keytruda and other new drugs coming on the market. Sausser said her dad asked if insurance would cover the drug. “The doctor told him they would find some way.”

That’s the nub of the dilemma. For many like McCallister, there may be help, often from the drug companies themselves in the form of patient assistance plans.

Remember drug company AstraZeneca’s ads for some of its costly drugs: “AstraZeneca may be able to help”?

Sometimes state or local government programs, private charities, nonprofit agencies, or coupon programs help patients pay for their drugs. Patients who can’t get help from any of those sources often go without.

Escalating drug prices affect everyone – even those not taking expensive drugs or not on Medicare. High drug prices affect all insurance premiums sooner or later. for the drugs, which pharmaceutical makers can set according to what the market will bear. They can pretty much do whatever they want with little push back from those who end up paying the bills – governments, insurers and patients. The U.S. has no cost controls, and government doesn’t negotiate drug prices the way many other countries do.

So the price of commonly prescribed drugs like the EpiPen, a shot that stops life-threatening allergic reactions, has risen to more than $600 for two pens.

In 2009 two pens cost $100.

The price for Abilify, an antipsychotic, has risen 113 percent between 2007 and 2014, and the cholesterol-lowering drug Crestor has climbed 103 percent over the same time period, according to The Campaign for Sustainable Rx Pricing, a group of employers, insurers, and unions that are trying to raise public awareness of high drug prices.

That helps explain why Medicare recently reported its spending on prescription drugs increased more than 17 percent in 2014 even though the number of claims from the program’s 38 million beneficiaries rose only 3 percent.

Medicare’s prescription drug law was never meant to pay all a person’s drug expenses. This year once a beneficiary and her drug plan have paid $3,310 for medicines, she reaches the coverage gap where she must pay the cost of

most of her drugs. If she spends, out of her own pocket, another $4,850 for drugs this calendar year, she qualifies for catastrophic coverage and pays only 5 percent of all her remaining drugs for the year.

The trouble is that with prices so high, it’s easy to end up in the coverage gap paying out-of-pocket. Even protection offered by catastrophic coverage may not be enough. That’s especially true for people taking highpriced specialty drugs.

In 2013, about 3 million people were in this predicament. “Not a lot of people pay above the threshold, but those who do can pay through the nose,” says Tricia Neuman, senior vice president of the Kaiser Family Foundation.

Not long ago I spotted a letter to the editor in USA Today from Heather Block, age 53 who has Stage 4 breast cancer. She was calling for patients to organize and build a network to help craft solutions for the problem of skyrocketing drug prices.

I talked to Block about this. Her zeal and interest in organizing patients reminded me of the early days of the consumer movement in the 1960s when citizens organized to pass legislation to make the marketplace safer and more fair.

With drugs, Block says, it’s hard to organize people because of drug assistance programs that take the sting out of prices and make patients less willing to work against the companies, the presence of disease advocacy groups funded by the pharmaceutical industry, and a general reluctance to speak up for fear of jeopardizing their own health and survival.

Spartans can’t recover from TD run on second play vs. Plainfield N.

Games aren’t typically decided two plays into the game, but it almost seemed that way Friday night in Plainfield North’s 62-6 win over Romeoville.

The Tigers (2-1) got an 82-yard touchdown run on the second play of the game from Tyler Hoosman after getting shut out last week and it gave them confidence, while the Spartans (0-3) were never able to recover from the early blow.

“That is mental weakness,” Romeoville coach Oliver Gibson said. “We have to defeat the ‘here we go again’ attitude.

And it is not pervasive. But in football you need everyone to do their 1/11th. When two people don’t do it and breakdown, boom touchdown. There is good football in this conference and there isn’t a lot of room for error.

It is getting mentally tougher so when you see adversity, you strike back instead of here we go again. It is our job to weed that out and put 11 guys on the field who will compete.”

Hoosman added a pair of 5-yard touchdown runs and a 35yard scoring run, all in the first quarter for a 28-0 advantage.

Zack Nadle got into the end zone midway through the second quarter on a 1-yard run and Kevin Block scored on a

quarterback run from inside the 20 for a 42-0 advantage late in the second.

A punt block by Shane McGrail and recovery in the end zone by Tim Donnahue made it 49-0 at the half.

“We had to get tougher quicker,” Gibson said. “We have played two great football teams, take nothing away from them, but our young men have things to learn. We’re building, but we don’t have time to wait.

“I put that on us, on me and everyone on our staff. It is our job to shape these young men to be mentally tough so we can be competitive. Right now we weren’t competitive.”

Carlos Baggett added two touchdown runs in the third quarter.

Romeoville got on the board in the closing seconds on Jordan Nettles run.

“We’re not going to lay down.

These kids aren’t going to lay down,” Gibson said. They put in the time in the summer and winter. I think these guys are learning that football is a year round sport. A lot of us worked in the offseason, but a lot of us didn’t. That is the culture we are changing.”

Next up for the Spartans is a home game against Joliet West (1-2).

“We are looking to compete,” Gibson said. “We have to take it play by play.”

The 16-driver field for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Chase is set for the opening race at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet.

ChASE from page 1a With the points reset, Brad Keselowski and Kyle Busch lead the way with 2012 points each – both posting four wins during the regular season.

Keselowski, however, knows that is not a lock for a championship as he posted the most wins two seasons ago and that did not translate to a title.

“We’ve come into this thing with the most wins in 2014 and a lot of momentum, and I felt like we had some ups and downs. We came in last year with one win, and it all comes down to just the same things,” Keselowski said after a fourth-place finish at Richmond.

“This is a dynamic environment.

What you’ve done in the past is not necessarily representative of what you’re going to see in the future or what you’re going to be able to do in the future. So you’ve got to keep working and keep your eyes in the windshield, not in the mirror.

Momentum is great and it makes you feel good, but it’s a tricky thing to get caught up in it.”

For Busch, he is hoping to build

off what he learned last year when he won the championship, but he said some of that was simply good fortune.

“We’ve had good fortune before.

Last year we made it through barely each and every round. I think we were the last car to transfer through every time. Doesn’t matter if you’re the first car or the last car, as long as you get through the next one, you’ve got an opportunity to keep racing for a championship. That’s what it’s all about,” Busch said. “You know, I feel like the first round’s a good round for us. It’s strong. But you got to have solid finishes and try to minimize your bad days.

“I feel like we kind of are right even with where we were last year, kind of doing the same things. But there are other guys that are better than us. So we’re just going to have to figure out how to out-race them and out-finish them when we need to.”

With the win at Richmond, Hamlin grabs his third win and resets at 2009 points, passing Kevin Harvick, Carl Edwards, Martin Truex, Jr. Matt Kenseth and Jimmie Johnson, all who reset with 2006.

Joey Logano, Kurt Busch, Kyle Larson, Chris Buescher and Tony Stewart all enter the Chase with one win and 2003 points. For Stewart, a three-time series champion, this is his final shot at No.4, as he will retire at the end of this season.

Stewart’s last title came in 2011 when he advanced to the Chase without a single win and then started the Chase off with a win at Chicagoland, which propelled him to five wins – including the final one at Homestead for the championship.

“What you do up to the start of the Chase really doesn’t mean anything, obviously. 2011 is proof of that,” Stewart said. “We’ll get started next week at Chicago, and all I care about right now is getting ready for Chicago and running through Sunday at Chicago. Once we get through that, I’ll worry about week 2. This is a stressful 10 weeks and you take it one week at a time.

That’s what we did in ‘11, and it worked.”

Jones, who won the 2015 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Championship with Kyle Busch Racing, is obviously excited to be joining the Sprint Cup circuit next season.

“It’s hard to say I’m not excited but anxious at the same time,” Jones said. “It’s pretty cool for me to be partnered up with Furniture Row and be part of them growing and part of 5-Hour, too. To have such a big company like that be partnered with me is pretty cool this early in my racing career and something I’ve always wanted. Just a good fit all around. (I’ve) got a lot to do this year yet, but definitely excited for next year.”

Truex is also excited to have a teammate joining the ranks.

“Everybody is really excited about this. We’ve heard Barney and Joe (Garone, president of Furniture Row Racing) talk for the last few years really about expanding someday and wanting to get bigger and wanting to grow,” he said. “(I am) just really excited to be a part of that.

“I know a lot of things had to come together. Toyota and the JGR alliance, all those things have been wonderful for us. Now I feel like those things all coming together, allowing us to do a second car, kind of helps keep those relationships strong, helps us build those for the future, and really I think bodes well for the future of Furniture Row Racing. Hopefully it’s something I’ll be able to be a part of for a long, long time. (I am) excited to work with Erik. Obviously a great talent, has all the right people behind him to be successful in this sport. Look forward to hopefully teaching him a thing or two along the way.”

Jones knows there will be a lot to learn as he moves up the NASCAR ranks on a permanent basis after running some Cup races in 2015 filling in for Kyle Busch (leg injury) and Matt Kenseth (suspension).

“Well, I don’t know if at any point in your career if you’re totally ready to make that move,” Jones said. “Like I said, I felt like last year I learned a lot in the few starts I made. At the end of the day I’m as ready as I can

be. At some point you got to make that jump. You’re going to sink or swim. Like I said, I think I’m in the best situation to hopefully swim and be successful at it.

“There’s going to be a lot to learn for sure. There’s going to be ups and downs throughout the year. I think at the end of it all we’re going to be in a good position, and I think we’ll be able to have speed at it and hopefully be competitive throughout the year.”

Rice to kick off Chase Country music singer and songwriter Chase Rice will perform the pre-race concert for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 400, the first race in the Chase for The NASCAR Sprint Cup on Sunday, Sept. 18.

Florida-born and North Carolinaraised, Rice played football on scholarship at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and worked on a NASCAR pit crew before moving to Nashville to pursue his career in music. Rice has a special passion for NASCAR, developed first through years of attending races while following his father’s racing career and through his own career experience within the sport.

“Racing is in my blood. My dad actually used to race when we lived in Florida and won his class at 24 Hours of Daytona, and my first job out of college was with Hendrick Motorsports, so being at the track is like home to me,” said Rice.

Don’t touch the 401(k) Scrape together and save every penny you can find each month Dear Dave, My wife and I make $100,000 a year combined, and we have about $12,000 in credit card debt. We also owe another $80,000 in student loans, and our kids’ private school education costs $1,000 a month.

Is it OK for me to take a loan against my 401(k), which is invested in mutual funds, to clean up the credit card bills?

Stephen Dear Stephen, I wouldn’t do that. If your 401(k) is invested in good mutual funds, it’s likely you’ll miss out on some pretty good rates of return. But that’s not the biggest reason this is a bad idea.

The biggest reason is that when you leave your company — and you will leave, whether it’s because you get a better job, you get fired, or you die — that loan is considered an early withdrawal.

If you don’t repay it within 60 days, you’ll get hammered with a 10 percent penalty plus your tax rate. You could easily lose almost

half of what’s in the account.

If you want to start paying off debt, my advice is to start doing things to generate extra income and begin living on a tight budget.

Grab an extra, part-time job for a while, too, and have a big garage sale. Sell so much stuff the kids think they’re next! You need to work a serious debt-busting plan.

The good news is it’s only $12,000. Knocking out the credit card debt won’t be so bad, and with your income, the kids’ school isn’t unreasonable.

It’s the $80,000 in student loans that’s killing you.

Scrape together and save every penny you can find each month, and put that toward paying off the credit card debt.

Then, roll that amount over, add anything else you can come up with, and attack those student loans.

Village issues skunk warning The village of Bolingbrook is alerting residents that, just as every community in the area is facing, skunks are out in full force.

Public Safety Director Tom Ross explained that a mild winter, combined with a few natural predators has made for a rough summer with more than the usual number of skunks seen out at night.

In a post about the issue, Ross stated, “We all put our garbage out at the curb once a week.

The other 6 days the skunks are

finding food other places. That is part of the problem too.”

In August, the village contracted with a private company to assist

Animal Control Officers to deal with the issue.

To date, the group has handled 103 skunks, 31 possums, and 25 raccoons. Bolingbrook Animal Control has handled an additional 105 skunks.

The village will continue working with the contractor. As Fall turns to Winter, skunks will hibernate.

Tony Stewart, 3-time winner at Chicagoland, makes his final run in Joliet before retiring

The drop of the green flag Sunday at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet signifies the beginning of the 2016 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. It also signifies the beginning of the end for one of the sport’s most polarizing drivers.

Tony Stewart announced at the beginning of the season that this would be his final season behind the wheel of the No. 14 Chevy.

A former winner at Chicagoland, the man they call ‘Smoke’ clinched his place in the Chase with a win at Sonoma in June.

“Before the season started we said our only goal was to go out and have fun, anything else would be icing on the cake,” Stewart said. “It’s been fun but we’ve also been able to run really well. We aren’t going to change.

We are going to keep having fun all the way to Homestead.”

Fun may have been Stewart’s goal from the beginning of the season, but with a championship only 10 races away, Stewart is looking to get more fun out of winning.

“My goal was to have fun this season, (this is) my last year, I really wanted to have a good time and I’m doing that,” he said.

“I’m having a lot of fun racing with the guys I’m racing with.

We wanted to win a race and we got that done so it’s kind of taken the pressure off of trying to accomplish that goal. Now, it’s like, ‘OK well let’s set another goal and set it a little higher’. We want to go and do the best we can to win this championship. You know the thing is its 10 weeks, it’s 10 hard weeks of racing and its three three-race segments to get to Homestead. You can’t leave anything on the table. You’ve got to use it up every week and its two and a half month of your life that you’ve got to really focus hard on and be all in on.”

as the driver’s enter the Chase, Stewart is looking for a competitive run at his fourth championship.

Stewart earned his first crown in 2002, grabbed a second in 2005 and waited six years before he defeated Carl Edwards by virtue of a tiebreaker. The two ended the season tied in points, but Stewart’s five wins bettered Edwards’ one.

With this being his last chance to get championship No. 4, Stewart said he will not go after it lightly. “(My mindset is) don’t leave anything on the table each week,” he said. “Once the Chase starts, every race that we run, it’s

not about saving anything. And I’m not worried about hurting people’s feelings, if we’ve got to roughen them up a little bit to get the job done, they don’t have to worry about me next year – I won’t be in that capacity.”

Stewart is not only looking for a title run for himself, he is looking for successful runs from Kurt Busch and Kevin Harvick – both members of Stewart-Haas Racing, the team Stewart coowns.

“You want to be peaking at that time, you want to be really coming into it and you know, it’s never that you go to the track and you’re like ‘well we don’t want to peak this weekend so we’re not going to try to win the race.’ That’s not the scenario you put yourself in but you want to have momentum, you want your team guys to feel like they’re building on something and feel like they’re getting to the top of the pile. And I feel like we’re in a position like that – Kevin and Kurt are both running well each

week, the Mobil 1 car for us has been getting better and better each week as well. We’re knocking our top fives left and right here and if we can have that kind of consistency, that could carry us a long way in the Chase.”

When the Chase is over, it will end a NASCAR career for Stewart that began in 1999 after spending time in the IndyCar Series, where he was the series champion in 1997.

Stewart is the only driver to win championships in stock cars, Indy cars and open-wheel Midget, Sprint and Silver Crown cars.

His three NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championships make him one of just 15 drivers who have scored multiple Sprint Cup titles, and only the ninth driver to win three or more championships, joining Richard Petty (seven), Dale Earnhardt (seven), Jimmie Johnson (six), Jeff Gordon (four), David Pearson (three), Darrell Waltrip (three), Cale Yarborough (three) and Lee Petty (three).
