Romeoville hosts Hot Wheels Legends tour Steve Zettle wins top car at Hot Wheels Legends Tour BY RYAN OSTRY Bugle Staff

@RyanOstry_BR18 rostry@buglenewspapers.com Hot Wheels have excited fans since they came out in 1968. Made by American toy maker Mattel, Hot Wheels have made scale models of their cars, allowing original design blueprints and detailing. In 2018, Hot Wheels started searching the country for the passionate custom automotive builders in the inaugural Hot Wheels Legends Tour. The tour spanned 15 states, attracted 3,600 custom builds and more than 65,000 fans. At each stop along the tour, 15 finalists were chosen — one from each location — but in the end, only one person walked away with the title of the Hot Wheels Legend. This year, Steve Zettle has a chance to be just that.

I’m still overwhelmed that I won. I never would have guessed it would have been me, there are so many nice cars here. Zettle won last weekend’s contest that was held at the Romeoville Walmart location on Weber Road. “I’m still overwhelmed that I won,” said Zettle, who drove nearly three hours to get to the show. “I never would have guessed it would have been me, there are so many nice cars here.” Zettle, who sported a ’65 Pontiac GTO, is now part of the collective winners group that will make a trip to the 2019 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. This year, three additional cities were added to the country tour, with the show gaining more popularity. At each city, builds are judged by a talented team of judges consisting

‘HOT WHEELS’ FROM PAGE 2 of Hot Wheels designers and automotive influencers, who select one finalist from each stop based on the criteria of authenticity, creativity and garage spirit. They each are judged side-byside to determine a grand prizewinner. The chosen car also gets inducted into the Hot Wheels Garage of Legends, a collection of one-of-a-kind cars that embody the brand’s challenger spirit and legendary design. Zettle said his GTO took around four years to build that was only done by him — fueling his love for his car. “I take pride in this car because I did mostly everything myself,” Zettle said. “The mechanicals, paint and body work were all done by me, so other than the lettering and machine work were about the only two

things I didn’t do on it.” Zettle said the design of his car was very important for him to model it after the ‘old school look’ that his dad taught him growing up watching drag car racing. “I use to listen to my dad tell stories when he used to go to the dragster back in the day,” Zettle said. “The old school look is what I went for because of the stories my dad told me.” After Zettle’s car was announced as the winner, he had the opportunity to drive it and show it off in front of all the fans by the Hot Wheels poster board. With Zettle’s car eventually going up against the best cars in the nation, he said he looks forward to challenge and he can’t wait for the opportunity. “Man, I can’t wait,” Zettle said. “I’m sure it’s going to be an amazing opportunity and I’m also sure it will be very emotional.”

Plainfield Central’s Lindish is 2019 Voyager Media Charlie Donovan Baseball Player of the Year BY MARK GREGORY Editorial Director

@Hear_The_Beard mark@buglenewspapers.com For a Plainfield Central team that finished one game away from advancing to the state finals, it was senior first baseman Jac Lindish that led the way all season. Lindish led the team in hits (38), RBI (32) and home runs (5) and tied for team-high with seven doubles, while posting a .392 batting average and an OPS of 1.097. “He can flat out hit,” Central coach John Rosner. “He has such an ability to drive the baseball and hit for average and power at the same time, its like nobody I have coached before. He is special and he deserves everything he gets.” What he earned this season was the honor of being named the 2019 Voyager Media Charlie Donovan Baseball Player of the Year. The award is named for the former Westmont standout who was a three-time Voyager Media Player of the Year and died in November of 2015.

Lindish led the Wildcats on a run that saw them beat Oswego 8-7 and Naperville Central 10-7 in the regional round. In the sectional, Central defeated rival Plainfield South 6-3 and Neuqua Valley 11-4 in the sectional. “These are all my brothers and coming out every day, it was fun. We were just feeding off each other. We played for each other all year and we were closer than any group you will ever see on a baseball field,” Lindish said. “It is all the behind the scenes work that no one sees every winter and every fall. Putting in the work in the weight room, getting faster, getting stronger — no one out works me and I am glad it paid off this season. “Baseball evens out short term and long term and you just have to stay consistent through the adversity. Coming to the park every day wanting to play and enjoying being around everyone, stuff just starts to fall your way and I just fed PHOTO BY MARK GREGORY

I couldn’t ask for anything more and we are going to miss him.” Lindish will attend St. Louis University in the fall and major in physical therapy, but has no plans to play baseball for the Billikens. Saving should be done together, not apart Managing money in a marriage is a we thing

PENNY DEAR PENNY,

DEAR DAVE, I’ve never hidden debt from my husband, but I do hide money from him on occasion. I don’t hide it for my personal use, but I have been setting money aside for emergencies without his knowledge. He’s not terrible with money, and he works very hard, but he always seems to find something to spend it

on. We were never able to save much of anything before I started doing this, but recently I’ve begun to feel bad

I’m glad you seem to be re-thinking this strategy. I believe in saving up for emergencies and having an emergency fund of three to six months of expenses in place. But deception in any form is never a positive thing in a relationship — especially a marriage. I know it won’t be easy, but you have to let him know what you’ve been doing. You also need to make sure you tell him in the right way. your intentions may have been good —getting into better financial shape — you’ve deceived him by doing it the way you did. Make some time for just the two of you. Sit down with him, and let him know what has happened and that you’re sorry for not being completely honest about it all. Explain that the reason you hid the money was that you didn’t want to speak up about how it was being handled in your marriage. Ask him to forgive you, and let him know you won’t do it again, but explain, too, how important it is that the two of you work together on saving more, spending less, and getting

control of your finances. Managing money in a marriage is a “we” thing. Decisions should always be made — here’s that word again — together.
