iles native edward Zawilla, who served in the u.S. Marine Corps until August 2015, received a key to the City during the oct. 27 meeting of the village of niles Board of trustees. Mayor Andrew Przybylo said the village wanted to recognize him for his service to the country and, by extension, the niles community.
The mayor said the former marine was an example of unambiguous heroism in a morally gray world. According to a proclamation issued to mark the occasion, Zawilla is a son of Niles Police Department officer
Marijo Zawilla. He enlisted in September 2010, earning the rank of sergeant as a Military Occupational Specialty Intelligence Analyst. He served in Afghanistan between August 2011 and December 2013.
