A bill that allows minors who suffer from epilepsy have access to medical cannabis is headed for Gov. Pat Quinn’s desk. The Illinois House passed Senate Bill 2636 with a vote of 98 to 18 on May 21. If signed into law by Quinn, it would allow Illinois residents under the age of 18 to apply for a prescription as long as the patient suffers from seizures. Rep. Lou Lang, rep. lou laNg D-Skokie, sponsored D-SkOkIe the proposal. Essentially, it adds epilepsy to the definition of “debilitating medical condition” that Medical Cannabis Pilot Program addresses. Under current rules, patients can’t apply pat QuiNN for the card to treat ILLInOIS gOVeRnOR epileptic seizures, and no one under the age of 18 is eligible for a prescription card. The law still hasn’t been put into effect pending approval of a set of rules being drafted by the Illinois Department of Public Health.
