LTHS students win Give Something Back Foundation scholarships Nonprofit organization provides mentors and scholarships to help Pell Grant-eligible kids go to college debt free Two freshmen from Lockport Township High School have been awarded full college scholarships by the Give Something Back Foundation.

Students Jose Mendoza and Jane Pochervina will be attending Blackburn College, the University of St. Francis or Lewis University once they graduate in three years from LTHS. The announcement was made to the students recently by GSBF, a nonprofit organization that provides mentors and scholarships to help Pell Grant-eligible kids go to college and graduate in four years debt free.

Both Lockport Township High School students completed the GSBF application process, which included attending a family information meeting, completing a College Cost Estimator, as well as an extensive online application, obtaining school and community recommendations, and participating in in-person interviews in order to be eligible for the scholarship.

GSBF was established through the generosity of Bob Carr, founder of Princeton, New Jersey-based Heartland Payment Systems.

Carr received a $250 scholarship grant from the Lockport Woman’s Club in Illinois in 1963 when he was accepted as a student at the University of Illinois, and he vowed someday he would “give back” when he was able. His foundation

Alumni pledge to raise $50K for after-school, arts education UIE event is slated to take place Nov. 12 in JTHS Auditorium Jane Pochervina partners with high schools and colleges in Illinois, New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania. The program has provided scholarships and mentoring for hundreds of students.

Students must maintain a B average throughout high school, participate in a mentoring program and attend GSBF-sponsored workshops to continue in the program. As seniors, students must complete the FAFSA and be accepted into GSBF’s partner colleges.

When it comes to dedicated alumni, Joliet Township High Schools District 204 is second to none.

Each year, JTHS alumni give back to their alma mater in a variety of ways. The latest example of alumni support comes from alumni group United in Excellence – an afterschool step-team program offered at JTHS from 1996 to 2004.

Earlier this year, the group reunited through Facebook to plan a celebratory performance and fundraising campaign to commemorate the 20th year of the program’s founding.

The dynamic UIE event is slated to take place Nov. 12 in the Joliet Central High School Auditorium, 201 E. Jefferson St., and includes performances by UIE alumni, guest artists and current JTHS students. The production has been designed to serve as a beacon of advocacy for student programs at the high schools, with 100 percent of sponsorship and ticket sales directly benefitting students.

The alumni group has partnered

with the JTHS Foundation, which will act as the fiscal agent for all sponsorships. Sponsorships dollars will fund a small-grants program that will be available to JTHS teachers, staff and faculty for after-school and arts education programs.

“We simply want to give back to the school and help create similar opportunities to the one we had in high school,” said UIE co-founder and Central alumnus Erick Deshaun Dorris.

Dorris said UIE put on annual step shows in the JTHS auditorium through 2004, and the performances became an annual celebration that brought the community and school school together for a worthwhile cause.

“Shows included positivelythemed entertainment, collaborations with other student programs and included students and community members from both JTHS campuses,” Dorris added.

With UIE members currently living across the U.S., the group uses a Facebook community page to stays connected, coordinate the campaign and learn choreography for the performance through self-made instructional videos.

Members talk on a regular basis via

video messaging to stay on track with their endeavor to give back to JTHS students.

District 204 added that UIE alumni have elected to pay $50 a month to pay for the expenses of the production. By self-funding the production, 100 percent of sponsorship dollars will go directly to their student programming fund.

“We are heartened and excited by the continued dedication of UIE’s membership,” said cofounder and Central alumni Cristi Washington. “And, we are looking to add new members to our rosters, as well as support from corporations and donors who will help us meet our campaign’s goal of $50,000 by November.”

Force awakens local fans Thousands of fans descend on Joliet for 7th annual Star Wars Day

The force was with residents of Joliet and surrounding communities who were in downtown Joliet Saturday to celebrate Star Wars Day. Highlights at the seventh annual event, which is based on the popular science fiction franchise, included a parade of costumed characters, professional lightsaber demonstrations and a presentation on cryogenic freezing.

New to this year’s event was Jedi Training, as well as a live-stream broadcast by WGN’s Jimmie Mack that featured a Star Wars-themed talk radio program and streaming for the Rebel Force Network.

Denise Zielinski, community engagement officer at the Joliet Public Library, said one goal of the event is to engage all those in attendance and inform them on what downtown Joliet can offer.

“It’s a way to get everybody interested in what’s going at the library, what’s going on at the museum and literacy,” she said.

The Star Wars-themed parade plays a great part in drawing in as many people as it does year after year, according to Zielinski.

“The parade is the part that, I think, everybody just really enjoys because they get to see all of the characters from all of the pictures and from all of the movies, and it’s a fun time when you see 200 characters just walking by,” she added.

Spectators watched as 150 to 200 costumed characters took center stage in the parade at this year’s Star Wars Days. Despite the rain, Star Wars Day drew in many fans across the area.

Marc Brewe, of Manhattan, was in attendance for the festivities.

Saturday was the fourth time he and his family participated in Star Wars Day. “It’s just a great family event for them and for us, too, to see the different characters, especially as Star Wars has evolved over the past few years with the newer characters,” he said. “It seems to get better every year.”

Brewe said the kids really enjoy themselves whenever they come out to the event, adding how his family tends to come away with a lot of pictures each year.

Pam Waldrom, of Chicago, was one of many people showing her support for the popular franchise.

“I think, for me, because I was a child when [Star Wars] first came out it brings me back to being a child again,” Waldrom said, adding that she also enjoyed spending the day with her family. “It’s a fun franchise, and sharing it with my kids is just something we do as a family.”

Close to 10,000 people took part in last year’s Star Wars Day, according to Zielinski.

“We just want to introduce people who may not have thought of us as a fun place for Star Wars Day; to realize that the library is more than just books,” she added. “We’re more than just a place that has story time.

We have lots of other things going on.”

Siblings drown in Kankakee River on Memorial Day ‘Extensive history’ of drownings near dam

A Memorial Day outing near the Kankakee River in Wilmington led to the deaths of a 13-year-old Joliet girl and her 12-year-old brother.

Abigail Arroyo was pronounced dead at 7:14 p.m. May 30 at

Presence St. Joseph Medical Center, according to the Will County Coroner’s Office. The girl was unconscious when first responders retrieved her from the river near South Island Park.

She was transported for medical treatment but later died as a result of her injuries.

Eder Arroyo was pronounced dead at 12:25 p.m. June 1, according to the Will County Coroner’s Office.

Rescue efforts for the 12-yearold boy continued for the next

two days, only stopping due to nightfall, Wilmington Deputy Fire Chief Todd Friddle said. Arroyo’s body was found 3.5 miles from the initial search area.

On the day of the accident, first responders received a call for assistance to South Island Park just before 6 p.m. and reported to the scene only minutes later, according to a Wilmington Police Department news release. The report stated that two children had wandered into the water and were pulled into the roller current of a nearby dam.

Around that time, two bystanders

attempted to provide assistance to the children, but they also needed to be rescued. One of the Good Samaritans was transported to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, where he was admitted in critical condition. The other bystander declined treatment, according to Wilmington Police Chief Phillip Arnold.

Friddle said there has been communication between the city and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources regarding safety issues near the Wilmington Dam. “There’s actually an extensive history of people drowning at that

dam,” he added.

Wilmington City Administrator Tony Graff said officials continue to review and discuss the public safety concerns posed along the river.

“We are open to ideas,” he said.

“There has been discussion of signage, fencing and even a phone box.”

There are currently no existing phone boxes near the Kankakee River in Wilmington.

The Wilmington City Council is expected to hold a special meeting June 9 to vote on whether to purchase and install these mechanisms.

New Joliet health center to open Thursday Site will be VNA’s 3rd federally qualified health center in Will County VNA Health Care will celebrate the grand opening of a new health center in Joliet Thursday evening.

The Joliet health center, located at 2400 Glenwood Ave., Suite 210, is VNA’s 10th federally qualified health center and its third in Will County. The grand opening event is scheduled for June 9 from 5 to 7:30 p.m., with a ribbon cutting and brief program planned at 6 p.m., followed by tours of VNA’s suite.

The healthcare provider said about 50 percent of the more than 65,000 uninsured individuals in Will County live in Joliet. Additionally, Joliet’s ratio of primary healthcare physicians to population is 44 percent lower than the ration for

the state of Illinois.

Amy Downing, director of marketing, said the goal ofVNA’s new health center is to make affordable, high-quality healthcare available to a large number of uninsured and underinsured residents.

In 2015, VNA Health Care received a $650,000 per year operating grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration to establish the Joliet FQHC. “Community health centers have delivered multiple returns on the public and private investment for the past 50 years,” VNA Health Care President and CEO Linnea Windel said. “This opportunity to expand VNA services to Joliet will provide even more individuals and families with access to the care they need the most.”

The company said it seeks to provide a patient-centered medical home that addresses individual needs and fosters a healthier community. Philanthropic support from the community is key to helping VNA provide affordable, accessible healthcare.

“Our patients get the comprehensive care they need under one roof, and they are treated as individuals, with dignity and respect,” Windel said.

Fire Department states rules for using fire pits Approved outdoor pits must be at least 15 feet away from any structure or fence The Joliet Fire Department is reminding residents of the requirements for using a commercial fire pit within city limits. Commercially sold steel outdoor fire pits that are on legs and attached to a steel bottom, wire mesh sides and a top are approved. A fire extinguisher or garden hose must be available to extinguish the fire, if necessary.

The city said approved outdoor pits must be at least 15 feet away from any structure or fence.

Wooden logs or artificial logs must fit inside the confines of the wire mesh and the top must be in place for the fire to be legal. Wooden pallets, treated deck wood, leaves, dimensional lumber or garbage are prohibited from being used as fuel in an outdoor fire pit.

“Be aware that although it is legal to burn in an approved outdoor fire pit, if it is believed to be offensive or objectionable by the complainant due to smoke, flames, sparks or odor emissions, then the homeowner shall extinguish the fire immediately,” the city said in a news release.

Commercially sold steel outdoor fire pits that are on legs and attached to a steel bottom, wire mesh sides and a top are approved. A fire extinguisher or garden hose must be available to extinguish the fire, if necessary.

A police officer may also issue a compliance ticket to the homeowner for creating a public nuisance or being in violation of the International Fire Code 2003 Section 307.2.2 “Prohibited Open Burning.”

The code states, “Open burning that will be offensive or objectionable because of smoke or odor emissions when atmospheric conditions or local circumstances make such fires hazardous shall be prohibited.

The fire code official is authorized to order the extinguishment by the homeowner or the Fire Department of open burning which creates or adds to a hazardous or objectionable situation.”

Residents are also reminded to verify any restrictions or guidelineswiththeirhomeowners association, if applicable, because the use of fire pits may be prohibited.

State lawmakers schedule town meeting on legislative issues State senators Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant, D-Shorewood, and Pat McGuire, D-Joliet, and representatives Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, and Emily McAsey, D-Lockport, will be holding a town hall meeting to discuss legislative issues on Thursday, June 16.

The meeting will be held at the Fountaindale Library, 300 W. Briarcliff Road, Bolingbrook, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

“I think it is important to speak with constituents directly and answer their questions,” BertinoTarrant said. “There are a lot of questions and people want answers.”

“This has been a brutal legislative session for everyone,”

“First things first” – we’ve all heard the saying, but how often do we put it into practice as we move through our day? Although my most productive and successful days are those on which I follow this advice, I sometimes (OK, often) find myself doing easy, fun or less important stuff before I get around to working on the things I “should” be working on. That approach can be fine occasionally, especially on the weekend when I want to spend more time playing than working. However, on “work” days, it can be a dangerous habit that can lead to missed deadlines and missed opportunities.

As tempting as it is to see what distractions lie waiting in my inbox, I spend the first half hour of my day exercising – if, instead, I checked my email first thing, I’d find plenty of excuses to avoid exercising.

THE MOST IMPOrTanT THIng? Ask yourself, “What’s the most important thing I should be working on?” This question can help prevent you from running short on time. For example, rather than checking social media, it would be more important to first get ready for a client appointment.

Then, if you had time to spare, it might be appropriate to check social media.

Compare the consequences of not doing the various items on your todo list and do the task with the most dire consequence. Once that task is completed, ask the question again.

SET a TIMEr It may be helpful to set a timer for regular intervals so you can periodically check in with yourself to see if you’re working on the most important task.

Depending on how distractible you are, the intervals can be anywhere from ten minutes to an hour. The more off course you find yourself, the shorter the intervals should be.

errors Indians allow unearned runs in sectional loss to Plainfield South

Mistakes in a sectional game will more than likely come back to haunt you and that was the case for Minooka in a 4-2 sectional semifinal loss to Plainfield South at North Central College.

The Indians allowed three of the four runs to score unearned and it was too much to overcome against a strong pitcher in South’s Austin Marozas.

“When you get to this point in the season, you can’t afford to give away free bases and we did that today,” Minooka coach Jeff Petrovic said. “I know the first two runs they scored, both got on via walk and the last one who scored reached on an error and scored on an error. You can’t give away 90 feet for free all the time and we did that today. The catcher hit a home run for them and that was huge, but in reality, that could have been the only run they scored if we played our game.”

After South scored the first run in the first inning, the Indians left runners on second and third in the third inning.

“We had a lot of opportunities to score runs,” Petrovic said. “If we were able to put across a couple more runs, we could have put more pressure on them and the outcome could have been different. It is just one of those games. They played very well and played a clean game.”

In the top of the fourth it was Minooka’s Jackson Shepard who came through with a clutch hit, roping a two-run triple to give the Indians a 2-1 lead.

“That was a big hit,” Petrovic said. “Jackson has been getting one big one every game for us and that was a nice one there. He has done a really good job and has worked hard. He contributed in a big way to this season.”

South answered in the bottom of the fourth when the Minooka catcher couldn’t hold on to the ball on a tag at the plate, tying the game 2-2.

A solo home run in the fifth made it 3-2 and errors in the sixth gave the Cougars an insurance run.

The Indians drew a pair of two out walks in the top of the seventh, but the game ended with a strikeout.

The mistakes caught the Indians by surprise as they had cleared them up after early season struggles.

“We struggled early in the season with it, but we had it cleaned up lately,” Petrovic said. “The past couple weeks we have played much better baseball. I was really looking forward to this because I thought we had rectified that. But, we have to remember these are high school kids and that stuff can happen at any time.”

Despite the loss, Minooka still comes away with a regional championship, although there was hope for more.

“By all our accounts, we kind of underachieved this year,” Petrovich said. “We didn’t win as many baseball games as I thought we should have. But they battled back and won a regional. That is what people remember about you. These guys showed a lot of guts and a lot of heart.”

Slammers earn sweep of Grizzlies

Joliet earns three-straight wins to get back to winning ways after dropping two straight The Joliet Slammers defeated the Gateway Grizzlies 7-3 Sunday to earn the series sweep with all seven runs came off home runs.

Joliet combined to hit four home runs in the game, including a long home run by Boo Vazquez in the first inning.

Carter Bell, Joe Staley, and Marc Flores also homered in the game.

Bell launched a three-run home run to left field in the third inning to give the Slammers a 4-0 lead.

Bell was ejected in the fourth

inning after both benches cleared after Phil Bates was hit by a pitch.

Gateway’s first baseman Ben Waldrip and relief pitcher JaVaun West were ejected as well.

Staley struggled in the first two games of the series, but with the wind blowing out in Sunday’s game, he got ahold of one and sent it over the right field wall to make the score 5-2.

Gateway’s Sam Fischer hit a solo home run and Craig Massoni knocked in a run in the top half of the inning.

Flores hit a home run off the building in right field to give the Slammers a 7-3 lead and a big enough lead for the Slammers’ pitchers to hold off the Grizzlies.

Flores went 3-3 in the game with two RBI. Sean Townsley got the start on the mound for the Slammers.

The lefty pitched five innings and allowed two earned runs, but walked seven batters in the game.

Townsley got the win to move to 2-1 on the season.

Tyler Levine and Brent Choban handled the remaining four innings and kept the Grizzlies from scoring.

While the Slammers’ three

pitchers only allowed three runs, they did allow 14 base runners on just four hits. Townsley and Levine combined for 10 walks.

Casey Fletcher, who replaced Bell at second base, made a great diving catch to end the seventh inning with the bases loaded.

A game earlier, Joliet saw Spencer Medick return to the mound in dominating fashion after being on the injured reserve list since May 24.

Medick pitched 7.1 innings and gave up just two runs in the Slammers’ 5-2 win over the Gateway Grizzlies Saturday, June 4.

The Grizzlies jumped out to an

early 2-0 lead in the first inning off a two-run home run by Craig Massoni.

Massoni got a hold of Medick’s pitch and sent it way over the right field wall to give Gateway a 2-0 lead.

The Grizzlies did not enjoy the lead for long as the Slammers came back and scored three in the bottom half of the first and it was all Slammers from there on out.

Joliet put up five runs in the game, but those two extra runs were just a pair of insurance runs as Medick shut down the Grizzlies’ hitters.

Joliet West’s Foote signs with Saints Joliet resident Moody is two-event All-American at NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships Colton Foote (Joliet, Ill.), a pitcher from Joliet West High School, has signed a letter of intent to attend University of St. Francis and join head baseball coach Brian Michalak’s team in 2017.

A southpaw, Foote was a twoyear letter winner and senior captain at Joliet West for head coach John Karczewski’s team.

He plans to major in information technology at USF. “Colton provides us with a left-hander who can consistently

throw strikes,” said Michalak, who completed his fifth year as head coach and 12th season of association with the USF baseball program as a coach or player this spring.

USF posted a 34-26 mark in 2016 and reached the championship game of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. The Saints have qualified for the NAIA Opening Round three times five years under Michalak.

Simmons picked up right where Medick left off. Simmons allowed one hit and no runs in his 1.2 innings of work.

The Grizzlies had a minor threat to score in the ninth, but Simmons fanned Tyler Nordgren to end the game.

While Medick was dominating on the mound, Alfredo Rodriguez was unstoppable at the plate.

as the University of St. Francis women’s track & field team produced its highest-ever finish at the NAIA Outdoor National Championships with a 13th-place showing.

The Saints’ previous high finish was a 26th-place performance in 2014; USF captured 14th place at the 2016 national indoor event.

During this week’s three-day NAIA Outdoor Championships, nine Saints earned All-America status in at least one event as USF fell just four points shy of a national top-10 finish.

Sophomore Jenna Moody (Joliet, Ill./ Plainfield Central) turned in the first of her two AllAmerica performances on the day as she finished fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of

55.14 seconds.

Moody then combined with junior Isi Edeko (Bellwood, Ill./ Walther Lutheran), sophomore LaToyah Mason (Savoy, Ill./ Centennial) and senior Daryll Rodriguez (Tinley Park, Ill./ Andrew) to cross the finish line in fifth place in the 4 x 400-meter relay with a time of 3:48.70.

• University of St. Francis senior Brooke Johnson (Flat Rock, Mich./ New Boston Huron) and junior Isi Edeko (Bellwood, Ill./ Walther Lutheran) have been selected to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) College Division Academic AllDistrict Women’s Cross Country and Track & Field Team.

Johnson earned NAIA AllAmerica honors in both indoor

and outdoor track & field this year, helping the Saints’ indoor distance medley relay to a fourthplace finish and the outdoor 4 x 800-meter relay to a seventhplace showing. She also claimed All-Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference accolades in cross country by virtue of a sixthplace finish at the conference championship meet.

A special education major, Johnson is a three-time CCAC All-Academic selection and a two-time NAIA Scholar-Athlete.

Earlier this month, she received USF’s Golden Bone Award as the school’s top female four-year performer for a career in which she claimed four track & field AllAmerica certificates and three All-CCAC awards.

Rodriguez went 4-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. He was just a home run shy of hitting for the cycle. Rodriguez had an RBI triple in the first followed by a single and back-to-back doubles.

In the opener, the Slammers won in front of a full house at Silver Cross Field with 4,668 fans in attendance.

Charlie White hit a two-RBI single to give the Slammers a two run lead over the Gateway Grizzlies in the eighth, leading the Slammers to their 8-7 win.

Bell got the night started with his three-run home run at the

bottom of the first to give the Slammers an early 3-0 lead.

The Grizzlies got to the Slammers’ starting pitcher Luke Crumley early chasing him out of the game after three innings.

Crumley posted a scoreless first but Gateway scored four times in the next two innings.

Joliet was able to stay in the game because of the home run ball. After Bell homered in the first inning, Vazquez hit a home run of his own in the fifth inning.

The Slammers trailed 6-3 at the time.

For the first five innings, the Slammers got their only runs off the two home runs by Bell and Vazquez, but a two-run seventh changed that as the Slammers fought back to tie the game.

The Gateway Grizzlies put themselves in the position they

were in in the seventh when catcher Nordgren fired a ball into right field trying to throw out White who bunted. The throw allowed White to move all the way to third on the play.

White scored on a sacrifice fly by Rodriguez to make it a one-run game in the seventh.

Vazquez doubled one batter later and Bell came through again to tie the game for Joliet. Bell drove in four runs in the game.

Marc Rutledge replaced Crumley in the fourth inning and pitched through the seventh.

Invest in yourself and graduate college debt-free It’s best for you to concentrate on finishing school, then landing a job

Dear Dave, I’m 19 years old, and I’m putting myself through college debt free.

I usually work part time during the semesters, but right now I’m working full time. I have about $2,000 in mutual funds, and I was wondering if I should add my fulltime work income to that or save it all to help pay for school.

make sure, first and foremost, that you graduate college debt free. So, if I’m in your shoes, I’m piling up the cash to pay for school.

You’re in a season of your life where things are more hectic than you probably ever dreamed they could be. My advice is to keep that money liquid. Keep it available and on hand, and don’t tie it up in mutual funds at the moment. You’ll have plenty of time to continue investing once you graduate.

It’s best for you to concentrate on finishing school, then landing a job and finding a place to live after college. Even if you end up living in the same place for

a while, starting life in the real world takes money, so let’s make sure you can make that happen.

In other words, Chandler, as long as you do something with your education and that education is in an area that’s useable, you are a better investment than mutual funds right now!

5th annual Wounded Warrior 5K continues support Event featured an opening ceremony, silent auction, presentations, food and more

The Run for the Brave Wounded Warrior 5K Run/Walk drew runners and supporters to Plainfield May 28, in remembrance of the many men and women who put their lives on the line to serve their country.

The fifth annual event featured an opening ceremony, silent auction, presentations, food and more.

Donna Morsovillo, founder of Operation Welcome You Home, said she started the nonprofit organization’s fundraising event to support veterans and fill in any gaps that may exist in making the lives of others better.

“While the Veterans Affairs is great in helping veterans, there are some extra things they would not help with,” she said, noting how the nonprofit has helped them to acquire the necessary funding

for riding lawn mowers and other support mechanisms.

On average, the annual race brings in about $50,000 to help support the varied needs of veterans.

Morsovillo said knowing that Operation Welcome You Home has reached a milestone in 2016, and is hosting its fifth annual race brings great meaning to her.

“It’s a cause that’s near and dear to my heart,” she said. “I had a Vietnam veteran brother who died not in the war but as a result of the war. I know how difficult it was for him because there weren’t at that time organizations like ours around.”

Morsovillo said the nonprofit organization’s ability to help the needs of those who served the country is formidable.

“We’re helping local people,” she said. “We’re not a national group.

We’re a small, local grassroots organization of volunteers.”

Ben Bierly, of Romeoville, was in attendance for the annual event. He said it brings great meaning to him coming together with local veterans and supporters.

“To me, [it means a great deal] to see other folks out here supporting fellow Americans who decided to serve,” Bierly said, noting the risks these individuals take by enlisting.

Bierly said the show of support seen serves as a good reminder of why people choose to serve.

“To see folks like Operation Welcome You Home come along and get with other organizations to help [veterans] out is a great feeling,” he said. “To see that, I think that shows a good side of America.

It’s a good reminder of why we do what we do in the military in serving our country and protecting our way of life, which we do willingly.”

Carrie Lapitan, of North Aurora, was one of many in attendance for the annual race. She said it brings great meaning to both she and her son to compete.

“We started a tradition where my son wanted to start doing stair

climbs, so we did a couple of charity events last year and early this year.

We started noticing that there was 5K walks, so he wanted to do it.”

Lapitan said the race serves as a great way to bond her with eldest child, Nathan.

“It’s more of he wants to do this thing, so I’m here with him,” she said. “He’s definitely my motivation because I couldn’t do this on my own.” She added that it’s nice being able to give back to the community for a good cause.
