The village will replace up to 800 parkway trees this fall, which had to be removed following the emerald ash borer infestation.

First responders with the Plainfield Police Department are getting some added protection for potential dangerous calls. “We’re looking to upgrade some of the ballistic protection for our personnel,” said Police Chief John Konopek, noting a disturbing national trend of police officers becoming targets while on patrol. The department will purchase 38 rifle plates and vests from Protech Tactical in the amount of $236 each, for a total of $8,968. Currently, the protective vests used by the department are not designed to stop rifle fire, according to Konopek. The new vests would include ceramic plates that would stay with each car, and could be pulled on in addition to the gear officers already wear. “There’s a threat to the security of our officers,” the police chief said. “Thankfully we have not had anything even remotely close to Plainfield.
