A new business will soon fill one of the vacant lots in downtown Plainfield. On Aug. 1, the village board approved a certificate of appropriateness and site plan for a proposed 3,200-square-foot building at 24210 W. Lockport St. DNA Athletics is an existing business looking to relocate downtown. The business is seeking to construct a new building on that site, which currently sits vacant. As part of the village’s Downtown Historic District, new construction requires both approvals from the board. Because the building is located within the village’s historic district, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, construction must include specific details, including window placement, brick detailing, and proposed awnings, which must be reflective of the architecture already present on Lockport Street. The site will include the building and five parking spaces, but the village will work with the adjacent sites for a possible shared access situation for parking. The tight parking area was a concern for some village trustees.
