Village trustees held a discussion recently on the possibly of adopting a funding mechanism that could help businesses build in town. The State of Illinois passed legislation in 2017 to authorize an innovative clean energy financing mechanism known as Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) financing. The program has been authorized in 33 states and allows for energy efficiency, renewable energy and water efficiency costs of new commercial and multi-family developments to be funded outside of the conventional lending process and be repaid through property tax assessments.
