PD to get new cars Original plan scrapped, new purchase saves BY MARNEY SIMON Enterprise Staff @plainfieldnews sweditor@enterprisepublications.com
Plans to purchase new vehicles for the Plainfield Police Department were scrapped this week, followed immediately by a new purchase plan set to save a village a little cash. On July 23, trustees rescinded the approval of a five-vehicle purchase of automobiles from Rod Baker Ford. That approval was made last month, but, according to the police chief, there was a problem with the process. “Unfortunately, due to an error on our part, the deadline [to order the vehicles] had approached immediately after that meeting, and we missed the deadline,” said Chief John Konopek. “We researched the pricing of the vehicles, and unfortunately, the pricing of the vehicles with the companies that we had researched back in June had gone up. So, we did some additional researching and the pricing at Rod Baker Ford, that was the approved dealer, had gone up approximately $6,000.” Konopek said the department reached out to other dealers, to see if there were still more affordable options on the table. Currie Motors agreed to supply the village with 2019 model vehicles at prices quoted for 2018.
