135th Street pedestrian crossing opens Work didn’t start until spring; funded with grants obtained by the village By Andrea Earnest Enterprise Staff

The 135th Street Pedestrian Crossing, which has been in the works for several months, is officially open. In November 2015, the Plainfield Village Board authorized the village president to execute an amendment with the Wisconsin Central Ltd. Railroad, where the village agreed to reimburse the railroad for 50 percent of the costs, which was estimated at $112,060 for the installation of pedestrian gates at 135th Street. At the time of the November meeting, Director of Public Works Allen Persons said the pavement, ramps, signs, curbing and even striping had been completed. The village believed that Canadian National Railroad would work concurrently with the village to finish work on the project. However, the legal department of CN told the village that the reimbursement addendum had to be passed before the railroad company would start work.
