The Plainfield Police Department responded to the 24100 block of Nottingham Avenue the evening of May 29 in response to a subject who called and stated he was armed, barricaded and had a hostage. When officers arrived at approximately 6:45 p.m., they set up a perimeter and requested mutual aid. Officers from several local agencies, including Joliet, Romeoville, Bolingbrook, Shorewood, Will County Sheriff’s Department and the Naperville SWAT team arrived to assist. Multiple attempts to make contact with anyone in the residence were made, but the attempts were met with negative results. The Naperville SWAT team made entry and secured the residence, but did not locate anyone inside. Several residents on the street were evacuated and the roadway was shut down for three hours. The residence is currently being examined by the Plainfield Police Department Investigations and Evidence Processing Division. The investigation is ongoing with the potential for classification as a “swatting” incident.
