Street projects approved Resurfacing set for parts of 127th, Renwick, Route 59 By Marney Simon Enterprise Staff @plainfieldnews sweditor@enterprisepublications.com
Village trustees have given the thumbs up on this year’s Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) street improvement program. Board members approved the work on June 4. In May, the village received four bids for this summer’s resurfacing work. The work includes asphalt resurfacing on 248th avenue, 127th Street from Meadow Lane to Route 30, Renwick Road from Indian Boundary to Drauden as well as Route 59 to Howard Street, and Wallin Drive. Also included in the project is removal and replacement of selected areas of concrete sidewalk, curb and gutter removal and replacement, drainage improvements, as well as pavement striping. The lowest bidder was D. Constriction of Coal City, for $937,671. That bid is 12 percent below the engineer’s estimate of $1.07 million. “It’s still a very good bidding climate, and we’re very happy with the prices,” Director of Public Allen Persons said. MFT funds are taxes paid at the pump, then held by the state and redistributed to municipalities for use on local road projects. Persons said the village receives about $23 to $24 per person in MFT funds, for a total of roughly $3 million this year.
