VILLAGE NEWS
Main Street home noted as local landmark Built in 1834 it served as stage coach stop, post office, inn, meeting hall, militia headquarters BY MARNEY SIMON Enterprise Staff @plainfieldnews sweditor@enterprisepublications.com
A home already recognized as an important historical stopover in Plainfield will now seek additional recognition for its historic importance to the village. The Historic Preservation Committee (HPC) has nominated Plainfield House/ Halfway House, at 503 W. Main St., to be considered as local historic landmark. The home was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 but had not received local recognition. Owners Ralph and Shirley Rouse submitted the request to the village. The house is one of five residences in Plainfield that have survived from the PlainSEE LANDMARK PAGE 3
