Campaign focuses on distracted driving Plainfield police joined in IDOT’s April awareness program The Plainfield Police reports the department issued 189 citations during the Illinois Department of Transportation’s (IDOT) first distracted driving campaign. The increased enforcement was part of the national Distracted Driving Awareness Month effort supported by IDOT. Driver distraction is a persistent issue in Plainfield, and across the country, and often has life altering consequences. This campaign was implemented to encourage motorists to “drop it and drive.” During the two-week campaign that ran April 16-30, the Plainfield Police issued/arrested: • 87 electronic communication device citations • 39 seat belt citations • 2 child car seat citations • 1 felony arrest • 3 fugitive apprehensions • 2 suspended/revoked licenses • 16 uninsured motorists • 17 speeding citations • 22 other citations Distracted Driving Awareness Month may be over, but the Plainfield Police will continue working to stop motorists from engaging in this deadly behavior.
