Village leaders have asked residents in town to take special note of Plainfield’s historic areas, as part of the upcoming National Preservation Month. On April 16, Mayor Mike Collins declared the month of May as 2018 National Preservation Month. “Historic preservation is an effective tool for managing growth, revitalizing neighborhoods, fostering local pride, and maintaining community character while enhancing livability,” Collins said as part of the proclamation. “Historic preservation is relevant for communities across the nation, both urban and rural, and for Americans of all ages, all walks of life, and all ethnic backgrounds… It is important to celebrate the role of history in our lives and the contributions made by dedicated individuals in helping to preserve the tangible aspects of the heritage that has shaped us as a people.” This year’s theme for National Preservation Month is “This Place Matters.” National Preservation Month is co-sponsored by the village and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
