The midnight hour as the new year rings in will be acknowledged as the Universal Hour of Peace in Plainfield, following a proclamation by Mayor Michael Collins.
After discussion in November and December about reducing the financial burden on residents, the members of the Plainfield Board of Trustees moved ahead with a plan to reduce the Capital Improvement Charge tacked on to monthly water bills. On Dec. 19, the board voted to reduce that charge from $7.50 to $7 per month. That reduction was done to help offset any raise in the village line item on residents’ tax bills, which could result following this year’s tax levy. Trustees were in favor of the reduction, but had mixed feelings on the scope of the change. “While I am in favor of the capital charge being reduced, I wish is was reduced a little more than 50 cents a month,” said Trustee Brian Wojowski. “I would like to see the board follow this in the future, to continue on with this yearly in hopes of refunding as SEE VILLAGE PAGE 5
