The Plainfield Riverfront Foundation established an educational center on the second floor of the foundation’s headquarters. The center features a timeline of the history of Plainfield, including some notable memorabilia from the village.

Members of the Plainfield Village Board are delving deeper into a plan that could affect how signs are erected in front of businesses in town. A review of zoning code amendments was the focus of a committee of the whole meeting Oct. 10. “At the very core of what we do, it’s to protect the public health, safety and general welfare of the residents,” said Jonathan Proulx, director of planning for the village. “That’s a very broad statement but that’s at the core of what our police powers are for any of the rules and regulations we adopt.” Proulx noted that the zoning code helps to maintain orderly land-use patterns. “Really keeping things efficient and orderly,” Proulx noted. “It protects the quality of life for our village residents, it protects the character of our existing residential neighborhoods… That’s the core framework for the zoning code.” While several items within the code may need adjustments, one particular concern for members of the board are signs placed in front of local businesses. The sign code is intended to regulate see Sign code page 4
