Zimmerman House gets a facelift Some changes are underway for historic home at 24215 W. Lockport Street BY MARNEY SIMON Enterprise Staff @BugleNewspapers sweditor@buglenewspapers.com
Some changes are underway at a downtown Plainfield site, but approvals for work in the historic downtown seemed to have slipped through the cracks in 2016. In December, the owners of the home at 24215 W. Lockport Street, commonly known as the Zimmerman House, came before the Historic Preservation Committee for a retroactive approval of work that is already underway or complete on the 1940s cape cod style home. “There had been ongoing interest in converting the home to commercial use,” noted Director of Planning Jonathan Proulx. “It’s been for sale for some time. The current property owners obtained the property and began their plans for it.” The property was purchased by Re/Max Ultimate Professionals of Shorewood one year ago. Earlier in 2016, staff met with the new owners and gave some preliminary suggestions on how to renovate the home and how to benefit from being in a district recognized as a National Historic District.
