The Plainfield Park District’s patriotic picnic and fireworks show is scheduled for July 3 at Plainfield Central High School. The picnic begins at 6 p.m. and fireworks will start at 9:15 p.m. The event is free and family-friendly. A bike parade, tricycle races, inflatables and a play zone are among the activities and entertainment that will be featured at the picnic. There will also be a Touch-a-Truck and the Little Obie Train. A DJ will play music throughout the evening and the American Legion will lead a retiring of the colors. As a result of pedestrian and vehicle traffic, Fort Beggs Drive will be closed from 4 to 10:30 p.m. River Road, James Street and Route 59 will also see more traffic because of the event. Renwick Community Park will also be closed all day on July 3 for crews to set up of the fireworks show. The picnic will take place in the south parking lot of Plainfield Central, and parking for the event will be available on the main campus of the high school. Rear parking lots off of James Street near Commercial Street will also be accessible. Handicapped parking is available near the front of the school. For more information, contact the Plainfield Park District at 815-436-8812.
