Will ask the state to revoke Brian D. Smith’s teaching certificate

Plainfield celebrates Irish Day Parade “What a fun day for families”, said Robin Lovett along with husband and two boys. The boys had fun collecting candy, leis and green beaded necklaces from Irish Day Parade marchers in Plainfield Sunday, March 15. Hayden especially liked a wooden board dropped into his candy bag by one of the marchers. SEE THE FULL STORY ON PAGE 23

The Plainfield School District 202 Board on March 16 unanimously approved firing a teacher accused of having sex with a 17-year-old Central Campus student. Brian D. Smith, 32, a Plainfield Central science teacher, was arrested Feb. 26 and charged the following day in Will County Court with one count of criminal sexual assault, a Class 1 felony. The board directed the super intendent BRIAN D. SMITH to notify State Superintendent of Schools of Smith’s termination and start the process to suspend and revoke Smith’s Illinois teaching certificate. Smith worked in District 202 since August 2014. He has not returned to PHSCC since being arrested off of school grounds on Feb. 26. He will not be allowed on any District 202 property. He has been directed to have no contact with PHSCC staff or students.
