Plainfield police will be extra vigilante over cellphone use while driving in and around road construction sites. The warning came during Monday night’s board meeting. Police will pay particular attention to motorists driving along the Route 30 corridor, where a construction-widening project is underway. The fine for cellphone use while driving is $250. In a related matter, the board declared April 26 to May 2 “Train Safety Awareness Week.” With rail crossings an ongoing issue within the village, Mayor Michael Collins asked residents to observe and support train safety as part of Illinois Operation Lifesaver. Collins read off statistics involving Illinois personal injuries resulting in 35 pedestrians being killed and 19 injured while on railroad properties in Illinois. He reported that Illinois ranks second in the nation in grade crossing fatalities and third in trespass fatalities. He urged safe driving and awareness of dangers around Plainfield’s multiple rail crossings. The mayor also recommended appointing Jeff Cook to the Police Pension Board with a term expiring April 30, 2017, and Richard Keifer to the Plan Commission with a term expiring April 30, 2018. Trustees unanimously approved the appointments. Trustees approved a Class”U” liquor license for Warehouse 109, a recreation/
