The Plainfield committee of the whole considered the water and sewer division’s proposed budget during its Dec. 14 meeting. Director of Public Works Allen Persons said that from 2009 to 2015, the workforce has been reduced by 25 percent in public works and 30 percent in the water and sewer division. Despite the decrease, the budget does not ask for more employees in the water and sewer division. Persons said the division utilizes technology for a lot of its needs, and that technology allows for lower staff numbers. Persons also presented a graph to the board that showed water production over the past few years. In 2007, the village had the highest amount of water pumped with 1.2778 billion gallons, and the water loss was 8 percent. 2012 was a close second with 1.2774 billion gallons, but only a 2 percent water loss. Persons said that with the water loss percent included, more water was sold to the village in 2012 than in 2007. For 2015, there is an estimated 1.1450 billion gallons used, and an estimated water loss of 2 percent.
