usan Triplett-Cunningham was a physical education and health teacher at Plainfield North High School, but her students knew her simply as Miss Trip. “She was the teacher everyone went to when they had a problem,” said Jacob Gansz, a 2014 graduate of Plainfield North. “She always told me to keep going, to get through it, and you’ll have a good life.”

Mayor Mike Collins proclaimed Nov. 13 World Pancreatic Cancer Day in Plainfield during the Oct. 10 village board meeting. Collins read his proclamation to spread awareness of the disease, which will be diagnosed in 367,000 people globally next year. Trustee Jim Racich said the conversation about cancer diagnoses has changed in the last 50 years, saying it was not talked about much when he was younger. “The word ‘hope’ has replaced the word ‘hopeless,’” Racich said. “People are surviving pancreatic cancer.” Racich and Trustee Bill Lamb both had family members who died from the disease and said they were happy to see Plainfield designate a day to raise awareness.

The village board approved a motion to direct the village attorney to prepare an ordinance for a special-use permit for Community Christian Church that would allow an indoor recreation addition. The property is located at 24035 W. Riverwalk Court. Several members of the church attended the board meeting and applauded the board’s decision to approve the addition. “You all do a great deal of work for Plainfield,” Trustee Bill Lamb said, welcoming the church to the community. Trustee Brian Wojowski added that he was happy to see a group come together to get what they wanted.
