Forest Avenue to get storm sewer improvements Parking restrictions, OHSEM visit, additional council business fill agenda
Driving by Karin Warden’s house on any given day, you might wonder why there are 30 bikes lying across her front yard. That’s because Warden, personal trainer and owner of Thrive Fitness in Downers Grove, is committed to more than just keeping herself and her clients healthy; she’s also committed to inspiring children to get active and stay active. Warden believes that fitness and fun can go hand-in-hand, and she’s determined to help kids realize that as well. This summer, Thrive Fitness offered a kids’ triathlon training group, in preparation for the Woodridge Rotary Club’s annual mini-triathlon being held Sunday. This was the 15th year the Woodridge Rotary hosted the mini-triathlon, and the local event is still growing in popularity. After the main event, there was a minitriathlon for children age 12 and under. The kids’ triathlon consisted of a 100-yard swim, a 5-kilometer bike ride and a 1-mile run.

Forest Avenue may be getting a makeover. The village will vote next week to approve contract work for drainage improvements, resurfacing, and the installation of permeable pavers on Forest Avenue. The storm sewer system needs replacing on Forest Avenue between 41st and Herbert streets. Simultaneously to this improvement, the road will also be resurfaced, and permeable pavement will be installed in the hope of calming traffic in the area. Permeable pavers will not only slow traffic, but assist with water quality filtration and works in conjunction with the stormwater system, said public works director Nan Newlon.
