Law enforcement officers across Illinois took to the streets, highways and roads of the state last week, carrying the torch for Special Olympics Illinois. Officers carried the “Flame of Hope” on June 8 in order to help raise funds for those hometown sports heroes competing with Special Olympics Illinois. Approximately 3,000 officers, representing every branch of law enforcement, covered the 23 legs of the Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run. The Woodridge Police Department team consisted of several officers, including Dan McIntyre and William Bodnar. Many community members also participated in the Torch Run by carrying the torch from 63rd Street and Hobson Road to the Woodridge Town Centre. The Woodridge Police Department has been involved in the Law Enforcement Torch Run since the early 1990s.
