ddressing ComEd with everything from inferior cables to lengthy delays in restoration, Downers Grove residents and business owners shared their concerns with power officials at a town hall meeting Thursday. “We’ve had a problem here no less than 15 years,” said resident Charles Rice, who resides in the Deer Creek subdivision. “Every foreman that comes out and looks at our cables says that they are inferior cables put in during the 1960’s that keep rotting out and breaking.”
According to Rice, two neighbors have spent more than $7,000 on generators. Research seems to echo that sentiment. In an analysis using four years of outage reports provided by ComEd, the village identified the areas of Downers Grove experiencing the most outages for the period of 2007 to 2010. “Looking through this data, we identified the 10 worst performing circuits based on frequencies of outages,” Downers Grove Management Analyst Allison Deitch said. “We found that equipment failure was the most common cause of outages, either overhead equipment or underground cable See COMED, page 4
