Hope’s Home Charity’s new name reflects expanded mission By Jonathan Samples Staff Reporter
When Downers Grove-based Walk-In Ministry of Hope was formed in 2000, its mission was to help less-fortunate individuals and families in the community find immediate assistance for an unexpected crisis. Recently, however, the scope of the Walk-In Ministry has expanded, leading to a new mission and a new name. Programs geared toward education and long-term assistance are now providing those needing help with the tools to overcome their problems, while also seeing them through immediate crisis. “Many people know us as an organization that provides that immediate assistance, which obviously is a value to the people in the community,” said Janell Robinson, executive director of the Walk-In Ministry. “But, we also want to

really stress how some of the educational components will lead to long-term changes and solutions. We’ve implemented those in the last couple of years, and they complement the assistance that we offer to the community.” This new emphasis on education and long-term assistance is one of the reasons
why the Walk-In Ministry’s leaders decided to shake things up and give the organization a new image. On Tuesday, July 30, the Walk-In Ministry’s officers held a special breakfast event to re-emphasize the changes within the organization and to See HOPE’S FRONT DOOR, page 4
