Furry Fun Draws Crowd at Plainfield Pet Celebration Clow Stephens Park turned into a paradise for pets and their owners on Friday, Sept. 6, when families from across the area gathered for an afternoon of fun, food, and furry friends.

The free community event, held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., drew a lively crowd eager to celebrate their pets and connect with local organizations.

The day was organized in partnership with the Plainfield Area Public Library, State Sen. Meg Loughran Cappel, and Will County Executive Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant.

Together, they brought a wide range of activities designed to entertain both pets and their people.

One of the highlights of the event was the pet parade at noon, which drew plenty of cheers as dogs of all SEE FURRY PAGE 3 Elijah and Layla Samaan of Romeoville enjoying the pet-friendly festivities at Clow Stephens Park during the Sept. 6 community event.

Clerk Mariyana Spyropoulos Hosts Second Chance Summit to Make Justice Accessible Clerk of the Circuit Court Mariyana Spyropoulos announced the upcoming Second Chance Summit, a countywide initiative to ensure that the legal right to expungement and record sealing is not just written in law, but accessible in practice to every resident who qualifies.

On Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., residents will gather at Proviso Math and Science Academy, 8601 Roosevelt Road, Forest Park, Illinois, for a day dedicated to clearing past records, opening new opportunities and connecting people to critical community resources.

At the event, participants can receive free legal guidance, have petitions for expungement or record sealing prepared on-site and meet directly with employers committed to second-chance hiring.

“Expungement and record sealing are rights under Illinois law, but rights are meaningless if people can’t access them,” said Clerk Mariyana Spyropoulos. “Our justice system must be more than words on paper; it must be a bridge to opportunity.

This summit is about removing obstacles, restoring dignity and making sure no one’s future is limited by a past they have worked hard to overcome.”

Attendees will have access to legal assistance from attorneys with Cabrini Green Legal Aid and other volunteer lawyers who will walk them through each step of the process. “The collateral consequences of any contact with the criminal legal system are far reaching and have devastating impacts on individuals, families, and entire communities,” said CGLA Executive Director Aisha Edwards. “Partnering with the Clerk’s office helps CGLA further our purpose of removing barriers to equity.”

In addition to legal help, the summit will feature a robust resource and job fair, with dozens of community organizations, training providers and employers ready to hire qualified candidates.

Clerk Spyropoulos will be available for media interviews leading up to the summit and will address attendees during the event.

shapes and sizes strutted through the park, many dressed in costumes and accessories. Families also enjoyed a Pet-Themed StoryWalk, weaving literature into the day’s outdoor activities and engaging younger attendees with fun, animal-friendly tales.

Animal rescue groups were on hand to showcase adoptable pets, offering attendees the chance to meet their potential new best friends. Several pet vendors lined the park, providing everything from toys and treats to wellness products. Food trucks offered a variety of snacks and meals, while giveaways throughout the afternoon kept the excitement

going.

Organizers said they were thrilled by the turnout and the sense of community the event fostered.

“This is what it’s all about — families, neighbors, and pets all coming together to enjoy a beautiful day,” said one event partner.

Tips to manage time more efficiently Busy days tend to be productive days. But when especially busy days are strung together, adults can begin to feel a little overwhelmed and may wonder if there’s anything they can do to make hectic schedules more manageable.

Time management strategies can be an effective tool in busy adults’ arsenals. Efficient time management can free up more minutes or hours in the day, which can ultimately afford adults more time to exhale and thus make each day seem a little less overwhelming.

Time management may require a little trial and error before adults find a formula that works for them, but the following are some tips to improve personal efficiency each day. · Identify tasks that can be tackled at night. A hectic start to a morning can set a bad precedent for the rest of the day. With that in mind, adults can identify tasks they can perform at night to ensure mornings are less hectic. Lay out clothes the night before to save the trouble of finding an outfit in the morning. Prepare the family’s lunches and even breakfasts the

night before so mornings go more smoothly.

· Exercise in the morning. A recent study from the World Health Organization published in the Lancet Global Health Journal found that 31 percent of adults don’t get enough exercise. Lack of routine physical activity has been linked to a host of negative health outcomes, including an increased risk for conditions like heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and stroke. Adults who exercise at night may find that attempts to squeeze in early evening or nighttime workouts add to feelings of being overwhelmed brought on by busy schedules. Exercising in the morning can free up time for other tasks in the evening, and doing so can even make it easier to manage daily stress, as the Mayo Clinic reports that exercise in any form releases endorphins and helps to relieve stress. · Minimize distractions. Distractions are arguably more prevalent than ever, as many adults feel nary a minute goes by without a smartphone notification and/or message from friends, family and

coworkers. Minimizing those distractions and resolving to tackle one task at a time can improve efficiency and reduce stress. Turn off smartphone notifications from apps that are not vital to work and family. During the workday, prioritize tasks each day and block off hours on your schedule so time can be devoted exclusively to the most important jobs. If hours on a schedule are left open, coworkers may schedule meetings that can make it difficult to complete necessary tasks. · Adjust as necessary. Flexibility is a must when making an effort to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

Each day presents its own unique and fluid challenges, so remaining flexible can help busy adults overcome unforeseen obstacles. In addition, some time management strategies may not be effective for everyone nor useful every day, so it’s best to recognize the need to adjust from time to time.
